The quake was felt over all of Wales
Wouldn't that be a tsunami?

When you grow up in California you don't even feel anything under a 5 and it usually does not even get reported.
But I bet for someone who did not grow up with them, even a 4.2 can be a little disturbing.

Seems shady to me. Lots of info what/how they do, very little about who they are apart from a couple of nice short stories about "the founders".
No info on any registered office
so if money gone it's send message through their "contact us" - no other contact points (basically without any who/where info that is no more than a black hole??)
Lot's of licences from the authorities of different countries, including Aus, UK, Singapore - sure very tough, but these authorities:
- do not guarantee your funds,
- will not take recovery action on your behalf if money gone
the most they would do is pull "the license" if too many people complain.
(To get that licence typically all you need to show is due diligence on transaction recording, and keeping a specified percentage of deposits in directly available funds.)
I mean at least when paypal came on the scene they had addresses and offices you could go to (even if not local they had a physical location.)
Could be wrong but not for me, I'd rather pay the extra percent or two to stick with those I know are real companies in real places [with real oversight/corporate and judicial governance].

I'd tend to agree - "you get what you pay for" may be a cliché, but it's pretty accurate all the same.

Thanks for the heads-up!
They have a detailed page in Wiki. It gave some kind of confidence.
But we can't, of course take this as a certificate for their credibility.

It's clever but would I use it? I don't think so.

Compared to using direct funds transfer between well-known banks, or using PayPal ... no.
«... thank the gods that they have made you superior to those events which they have not placed within your own control, rendered you accountable for that only which is within you own control For what, then, have they made you responsible? For that which is alone in your own power—a right use of things as they appear.» Discourses of Epictetus Book I:12

Use it a lot, it is good.
And I have used it for years.
It is much cheaper than transferring money directly abroad, because you dont actually change your money.
If ten people in france want to transfer money to the UK, and ten people in the UK want to transfer money to France then TransferWise keep the money in the respective countries and transfer it to the required accounts.
It is reliable, quick, and cheap. Use them.

Interesting idea but what happens if the funds in one direction are 10 times that of the other? Does it do a hold or does the exchange rate kick in?

Do you really think transfer wise has only 20 users?
On average the money flow around somewhere like Europe, where it was set up, equals out.
If you wanted to move large amounts of Rand to Sterling, you might be on a one way traffic flow and get just a good commercial rate.
In any case it beats anything your bank can offer.

I suspect that it does not in some cases. Certainly in the US more goes, via money transfer, one way to mexico.

Which is what I explicitly suggested.

I suspect that not only depends on the exchange rate but also the amount and fees.

If you need to ask the question, then the answer is probably: "no". Use a registered bank or financial institution that you know is licensed and regulated in your country.

When transfering money the main issue is to trust the receiver of the money. There is a lot of scamming in the world, which are telling sad stories or beautiful ladies who want to visit you.
You also can send money with Paypal. It is more secure and established.

I have used moneytransfer a lot, they are reliable and give a MUCH cheaper rate than a bank for foreign transfers.
