And I have a new back drop...

So cold, he dog just came in, turned around and went out again.
Our hot tank went the way of ladies of negotiable affection and started to leak. so Mr Plumber is doing the replacement. We have been without hot water all day and the heating is also off as it's connected.
I really picked a great day to work from home.

Sounds like the plumber picked a great day to work from your home, too.

Just looked outside and dog is curled up asleep on the patio.
Living room carpet was obviously too cold for him...

It bloody is if you have no heating. The dog is of desert stock and is not impressed by any temperature below 30°C

It was snowing in Bristol Tuesday night, I saw it outside my Window or rain that can move up.
It was clear the next morning...

It gets cold in the desert at night.
But he'll do JUST fine in any temperatures you have in the UK as long as he's well fed and has some kind of shelter

You need to understand that half the housing stock in the UK was built in the Victorian era.
It is sh*t. Cold, damp, f***ing dreadful. Should have been torn down and replaced with something modern.
It can be 10 C outside. It feels the same inside.

In my experience the Victorian stock can be a lot better than relatively new builds.

You must have experience some really sh*tty new builds. Surprised they are even legal if they are that poorly insulated.
Wasn't talking about just insulation, more in general, some new builds just have a cheap feel about them.
yeah, some of the new stiff is cheaply put up (like American houses), but it should be well insulated.

Sunday, water line under the house froze; used a forced air propane heater to get it thawed.
And, heating unit stopped working; heating the house using firewood and a wood burning insert in the fireplace. We adapt as needed and make sure we have 'low technology' options.

It's no longer intermittent: I went to make a lunchtime sandwich and the bulb doesn't work any more.
Turns out it only works when it's warm - when it gets as cold as the inside of the fridge it stops working. Presumably, the tiny wires shrink and no longer make contact. Take it out, it doesn't work in a different light socket. Let it warm up, it works.
That's a relief - I hate it when I don't know why a problem happened - so I don't need a new fridge, and get Brownie Points after all!
Why does this remind me of computing?

or you could put a candle in the fridge under the bulb
- but then the bulb would be superfluous.
so just the candle then.
(to save time go ahead with 2 holes, one with a small fan sucking in air so the candle doesn't go out.)
