The comment to which this responds ("poof" bum) and your prior comment ("Catholic Priest sex, an abomination and embarrassing." makes all of us realize the awful truth:
Such obsessions supply the proof that you've been "down under" far too long - both literally and figuratively.

Actually, the colonial dialects came from Britain. Even though many of these regional dialects and vocabulary fell out of use in Britain, many remain current in the former colonies.

It reminds me of an occasion in New York.
I was out with some Mercans having a beer. I had a pint pot in one hand and the waitress bought over the next round so I had a beer in each hand.
One of the Mercans turned to me and said "Hey, looks like you're double-fisting!"

It doesn't have to be British verses American; it can be regional within North America.
In Canada, a toboggan in a long wooden sled used on snowy hills; in the Southern states, its a winter hat.

In British English the colloquial and perfectly acceptable way, in the 1970's and before, to ask if you you could have a cigarette from a friend was "Can I bum a fag?"

Hi All,
I was told to give a hand (read hand to mean do his job) to a very junior member of staff who is known for doing his own thing (I am told he downloaded the Wanna Cry to fiddle with...). Who is now on suspension his PC's (Windows & Linux) have disappeared... we were told not speculate on why. I am now facinated what can he have done, I have had to leave him alone as I am working on a picece of kit to go to a Customer next week. After all we should not have to baby sit him, I think? If he is that intent on causing trouble all power too him and please tell me that I should not feel guilty as I left him alone for three days at most.

You should not feel guilty.
Really.
Honestly.
Don't feel guilty.

The onlything you should feel is confused that they smacked him that hard but stopped short of sending him home on gardening leave.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

My very first employer saw such things differently. You had to keep a good eye on the 'juniors' and see to it that they don't do any harm to themselves or others. Not that I was so much older than them.

That I am pretty sure he is not doing. We had a conversation re: torrents he pretty much is disapproving of them as they reflect badly on Linux users...(?)

Does it make him twitch to learn that many if not all Linux distros are available as torrent downloads?

For me... he should not babysitted, he should be fired... Is he maybe family of any boss?

Nope!, however I am told his parents are friends of the MD, he was viewed as a 'useful' person (the question is how useful?)
