The fact that you're not willing to pay $20k for a blob of glass doesn't mean some rich sunshines aren't; and the price for that sort of thing is whatever the market will bear.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I've been writing software for over 30 years and I've reached a point to where I'm tired of doing it. I recently took up the hobby of video editing and creating a YT channel with my wife and a friend. It's been a lot of fun, but I've noticed that I'm doing the same things that I do as a programmer.
First, I had to get the right tools, ie. camera, tripod, lights etc. I, then, had to get the right software and do all of this on the cheap. Then comes the technical stuff setting up the channel, adverts and alike.
The video editing becomes tedious and draining, staying up till the early morning getting the resolution, green screen, and audio correct. I've spent the last week creating videos and have gotten very little sleep.
Come to think of it, I think I'm going to stay a programmer. I at least get more sleep.

All you have listed are the requirements for any skilled job: the right tools, skill, and a bit of perfectionism.
Best of luck in your new career/hobby!
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Thanks. I hadn't planned on making this a job, just to have a bit of fun. I would usually go home and work on a C# project, like steganography, or an appointment system, but found myself getting a little burned out. This hobby, I thought, would provide a new learning experience and an exciting way to see how others respond to my work. It's rare to get any positive feed back from software development. It's just that with the programming, others are now trying to dictate their requirements and not mine.

Can't sleep?
1. make a video of some sheep and count them,
or
2. become the project manager and get the other people to do the work.
#1 and #2 pretty much functionally equivalent except that #1 doesn't require meetings - huge plus.

Great idea! I get the best of both worlds.

Maybe you are not a "creative" type of person.
I'd rather be phishing!

Maybe so, but if I'm not creative, then I've made a bad career choice. I think it has more to do with expectations of others. You do a couple of decent videos and the demand goes way up. It's not the process, it the quantity. I just can't bring myself to refuse the misses.
(Keep it clean. This sin't the soapbox. )

This might break the guidelines for how close to the screen you should be when writing code!

One of the potential benefits of HoloLens[^] and other augmented reality technologies is that you won't need to go out and buy a dozen monitors... You can have that 10-foot virtual 4k monitor follow you everywhere you go.

Only if you wear it on the back of your head like some 40 year old wannabe hipster; in normal use it would be leading you

According to the article, it's still just 4096x2160, so based on my $500 4K monitor, that's about 120 lines.
Disappointed much?

It's surprisingly readable, but not on my 40" display. I normally use Consolas 10-point; at 6 point, I get maybe 180 lines. But then the font is downright ugly.
