What if the parents abandon the nest as it is in the window with the eggs still there?

Then the eggs die.
It's supposed to prevent bird's-egg collectors, I believe.

Sure. I was just wondering if there are specifications about how long you have to wait until you can move the nest when you believe it has been abandoned. This would be sort of an add-on to the suggestion that he gets a cat.

In the States it’s illegal to remove or destroy an active nest from a native bird species. An active nest is defined as “a nest with eggs or brooding adults in it”.
At any rate, blocking the window from the inside with cardboard probably shouldn't be an issue. The parents might be a little skittish at first, but once they see that it is not a threat they'll resume nesting.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Not native - they're pigeons

Oh... pigeons... sky rats, in that case use a shotgun or fire! Fire would work! No use dynamite, that would be fun. (I don't mean that seriously)
If you want them to raise their young, cover the window from the inside. They'll move along in about a month.

Can't do that - the window HAS to be shut at some point soon but, equally, I don't feel that I want to destroy the eggs - the birds have done nothing wrong.

Alternately you can feed them calciumcarbide and put some candles nearby.

Seriously you are generating angst over pigeons, pick it up a put it in the bin, close the window.
Did you know that pigeon crap is toxic, Singapore is trying to stop people feeding the little bastards as they are getting sick kids poisoned from playing in the same grass where their parents are feeding flocks of pigeons.

Yet they let people burn huge loads of toxic incense paper made from super cheap contaminated recycled paper on that very same grass (as well as public footpaths and running tracks ...) - the pigeon crap in Singapore is a minuscule issue [disproportionally touted as 'good environmental practice'] compared with what they let people and even more so business get away with to "stay competitive." Anyway soapboxing, will stop.

There are a few things that SG does correctly and a vast number of them that are less so! The discussion was on pigeons not the dictatorship of Singapore!
The irony of the "Super Trees" just cracks me up every time. Bloody great signs saying "Build Green" next to an office block construction site, wait no 4 construction sites (using Bangladeshi labour). And being the medical haven for every scumbag politician/dictator/general in the region certainly give them the moral high ground.

Hmm, question of the day! I had a similar issue many moons ago the parents got upset and left the nest so whatever careful!

|

Leave it! Once you have moved and touched it, I find it highly unlikely that the parents will think it's theirs. A move can only result in trouble

Buy a cat? Get one from the pound for the price of neutering it (so no little cats.)
BTw: if you don't like cats, a snake, gila monster, monitor lizard are good alternatives.
If you really hate cats a komodo dragon will get rid of those as well as that pesky barking-at-all-hours dog down the road too.

I tried that. Then I had to get a mountain lion to get rid of the komodos. Now I have mountain lions roaming around. I think I need a bear.

I accidentally destroyed a tree with a nest of two turtle doves in it. I moved the nest to another tree, but the parents couldnt find it, so we hand reared them. They were very cute and funny little things. They used to follow us round thhe house, sit with us to eat, and quite tame.
We fed them bird seed mushed up from the tip of a washing up glove finger, and they thrived on it.
