I'm with you, Charlie. Thankfully you can still buy a copy of Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit[^]. Just be sure to download the Win7 drivers for your new box before wiping it clean and installing Win7.

Yes, I have 4 copes in my drawer - all legal I think (never got through the nn pages of licensing from my favorite buddies at MS). The problem is that when you get cutting edge hardware, it can be difficult to find older drivers. Hate/hate relationship.

MS announced recently that they will no longer supply Microsoft Updates to Windows 7 running on new processors (such as Intel's "Kaby Lake" line, IIRC).

Also make sure it's an older laptop. MS is still planning to follow through on their threats to turn off W7/8.x on all Intel/AMD cpu architectures that post-date W10's launch later this summer.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Just come over to the dark side and buy a laptop from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed (plus you'll save $100 over the same model with Windows). Install Win7 in VMs for all your windows development, plus expand your skills and develop for linux (or just do some non .Net web dev) as well.

If I am reading your post correctly, it seems you are experiencing some sort of problem with your computer. Did you try rebooting?

Reminds me of working on PocketPC and having to have a Windows XP install to do some of that work.
Not fully supporting CE 5 & 6 with VS 2010 was a big thorn in my side. Of course, then there's how 6 dropped gdiplus and the weird way .NET compact deals with native handles and....
(I've been working on Linux embedded and find CE itself far better. Add in the development infrastructure, even if it does have issues, and it's magnitudes better.)

I almost classified this as a joke but there is too much truth to it.
Scientists have announced the discovery of the HEAVIEST element yet known to science.
The new element is Governmentium (Gv). It has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lefton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons or protons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes in contact.
A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction normally taking less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 - 8 years. It does not decay but instead undergoes a reorganisation in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganisation will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration.
This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass. When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons. All of the money is consumed in the exchange, and no other by-products are produced.
Govermentium is in the same family as moronium , and lead .

There must be some universal constant hidden in all that. The number of neutrons and morons may vary, yet Governmentum is the same everywhere.

I'm a fan of Zero-Point Stupidity[^]. With Governmentium this is the base state of stupid regardless of the number of morons

I don't think politicians will ever reach that lowest point, they keep amazing people as to their stupidity, or what might be called lack of conscious.
