This is what I did :
- uninstalled the Dell drivers for the GT 550M
- installed the latest drivers from NVidia's site
- installed 2015 - made sure it works
- reinstalled 2017 (had to wait it out due to the web installer, and lack of iso, and inability to get the offline download working)
2017 runs now (so far).
I'd guess this was a WPF issue with the video driver from dell's site, as the VS shell is written in WPF.

Well, I have had very few issues with 2017. It may have something to do with the fact that I avoided 2015. Who knows?

Why not. It uses WPF, that utilizes DirectX...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

Unfortunately, yes - a side effect of WPF being written on top of Direct3D.

Hi All,
I am software developer working in a good MNC. I am very eager to develop something that can boost confidence in my career and in my learning. I am very excited to create something new or rebuild something existing with more features. I am not getting good ideas. I know this is very foolish question to be asked in this community. But may be there are others like me. I would really appreciate if people reading this post especially experienced one's can help me out.
Thanks and Regards
Maverick

I hear good things about coding katas. Why don't you look into those?

It's probably the number of callbacks (or whatever they're called) he gets from me that makes him unwilling to post anything.

If you don't know what to program then write a game.
Honestly. Games have graphics, sound, network or internet connections, artificial intelligence and even the smallest performance issues are frowned upon.
My favorite game is writing a game. It has difficulty levels ranging from beginner to impossible.

"No, from Canada."

Nope. Anything that uses Samsung lithium Ion batteries blows up sooner or later.

Being creative and "create something new" is not the province of everyone (I am not a really creating person).
I suggest looking at an open source software in a domain you like (music, graphic, personal finance.... whatever ) and look at the different bugs and feature requests that you could work on.
Start small, gain confidence, and work your way to more complex issues and features.
I'd rather be phishing!

How about an extension of virtual reality into real reality?
There's a good fortune to be made selling real halberds, AK's and rocket launchers to gamers
- even better if they got the infinite ammunition cracks already installed.
BTW: My tastes are a bit genteler: all I really want for Christmas is a small portable amiable EMP generator.

Well, there are lots of little side projects that you can do to build experience and confidence as well as learning important concepts.
Such As:
A person-to-person TCP/IP chat client and server (networking, sockets, and event driven, asynchronous programming)
A data mining/analysis tool (databases, data structures, and handling large data sets)
A simple MVC application (Web services & applications, RazorViewEngine, TCP/IP & UDP) (P.S. a simple feedback form is great for learning)
More advanced topics:
Write your own {stable}thread pool (yes, it's been over done but you learn a lot about synchronization techniques and asynchronous program flow)
Windows application in Windows Presention Foundation (windows programming, UI design techniques, and all other things aggravating)
Data Access Service with Window Communication Foundation (security, networking, databases, etc...)
if (Object.DividedByZero == true) { Universe.Implode(); }

Talk about effective advertising, they've even made you spam completely unrelated forums with their adverts. Let me guess...you're one of those people who claim they're not influenced by big corporations?

Ummm no. I've read the comments and realise it is intentional.
Also realise nobody on here is going to go Iceland of the back of this. There's sweet corn on the pizza for Christ sake.
And you guess wrong. I'm not a pretentious twat.
Let me guess...you're one of those people that has not had a root for a very long time?

So why post it? Do you post other adverts you see?
This all harks back to Susan Boyle's album launch where the mistake was first made legitimately and it has become a meme latched onto by Ed Sheeran, and now it seems Iceland are piggy backing onto it as well, pretending it was an unintentional error so that people spread it "OMG Look at this!". That's why it's called "viral marketing".
