I didn't need to bother with the 4 hour alarm clock today then .
Well done, over to you for tomorrow's CCC.
Edit: it just occurs to me that I should've added 'slightly confused' or similar to reference the reordering of the R and the E. So extra well done for getting it!

Hardly a week since the full version of Visual Studio 2017 was first published, and 10 minutes ago I got a yellow flag in the top right corner, that informed me that there was an update for VS 2017! It installed uneventfully and now I'll go and kick its tires to see how it runs.
Rats! Every time there is any major update I have to do a fresh image of my systems drive. Nevertheless, I appreciate the update Microsoft!

I'm still on 13, seems to be the last solid version.
was considering 15 once it was stable, ... but no, 15's been left unfinished and abandoned in the rush to 17. (They don't even let you download 15 without jumping through hoops. maybe around Christmas might take a look at 17, but really not sure.
ms seem to have changed the way they operate,
previously they would finish a version before moving on,
these days ms seems to be releasing new versions just for the sake of getting a new version, and result is nothings finished, nothings stable. Hint's already started about vs-19, WTF WTF, 17 isn't even old enough to see any teeth yet.
w10 too is stupid, supposedly "10" is the last version, but now it's "editions" and "releases" so that's already bullshit, guess it's only the last because the idiot at the top ('nads' I call him) has run out of fingers to count.
w10 will also never be finished - just sure as hell of a lot more confusing: w10, w10 "anniversary", w10 release 1607, LTSB, insider ...
What current ms product is actually considered ready to use, what's finished enough to use in the real world for MC apps. (well OK office is sort of OK, but it's got the ms clown stuck up it's butt.)
WTF ms, from the outside you're like a blind drunk dog driving a road train the wrong way down a single lane dirt road.
Rumors trying a phone again, FFS nads, everything you've touched has turned to sh*t. And your solution: bring out even more sh*t, and if that don't work try polishing it and send it out again. nads you moron: 1. it's still sh*t, and 2. you can't polish sh*t, 3. and 2 sh*ts don't make perfume.

Office gets worse and harder to use with every update, what with their "Hey, doing A was really easy, with just a right-click! Let's take that away and hide it behind three clicks and two annoying pop-ups that keep getting in the way!" corporate vision -- and bugs that were present in word 2 are still present in the latest version!
The only reason to "upgrade" from 2003 (and then only to 2010, skipping 2007) is if you use it with a touch screen, because finger-scrolling doesn't work right in 2003 (even though it was supposed to be working perfectly since 2000).

So how is this new system going to work when it comes to updates, for people like me who prefer offline installers? Is there a single file you can download (once) to install, say, on top multiple instances in multiple VMs?
|
|
|
|
|
Quote: offline installers I honestly do not know. In my case the Visual Studio updater was invoked by VS itself and it downloaded and installed the update. You will have to see if you can download the install file for off-line updating.

Finally found the first signs of Microsoft in VS 2017...
In the new extension system you have to define at least one prerequisite to even compile your VSIX project... Even you have no such thing... And the prerequisite everyone have to declare is the core editor - even your extension never gets close to any editor or code...
I feel home already
And! You also have to set a version - while in the documentation Microsoft clearly recommends to use id only...
