So that's an error message, but I ask how does it know that the recursion is infinite?
It's not infinite, it's just very deep*.
* No, it is infinite.

He's not infinite. He's a very naughty algorithm. Now p**s off!
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

-- that was painful actually.
We have a wrapper controller, that holds multiple other controllers and when a call hits it that is where any branching takes place. When an unnamed eejit changes the lookup to return itself to be called the air circulatory device is impeded by aerial faeces...
In other news, I'm on my fourth espresso this afternoon.

Its just a likely cause. It could also be that you're using a Microsoft "feature" (such as GDI+) that fragments memory so badly it soon has trouble allocating enough for a long integer.
Cheers,

It's not infinite because there are two stop conditions:
Out of memory and stack overflow.
You triggered one of them
|
|
|
|

You should never trigger StackOverflow

That's why I have written it all lower case

Third condition: running out of monkeys - coz not infinite number of them either.

You mean politicians don't count? 'Coz there seems to be an infinite number of those buggers!

You are confusing the number of politicians [finite] with the number of political jobs [infinite]. And I think when you ask them for their expenses receipts that is when you get an out of memory...

Is a process which can be aware of whether or not another process is infinitely recursive ipso facto recursive itself ?
Why does this remind me of the fact that both Cantor and Godel went insane working on the mathematics of the ordinality of infinities ?
«There is a spectrum, from "clearly desirable behaviour," to "possibly dodgy behavior that still makes some sense," to "clearly undesirable behavior." We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. But stuff that is in the middle category you don’t want to restrict unless there is a clear way to work around it.» Eric Lippert, May 14, 2008

What ever happened on D-Day a couple days ago? You built us up with all of the potential scenarios, then left us hanging. Curious minds want to know!

It could be that it was option 6/5 and he now has better things to do.

This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

You know you can invoke him with the "at sign" notation?
Stick an '@' in front of his login name (shown on his user page) and it tells him you asked a question, thusly: @Colin_Mullikin
@daveauld
Will do it!

I meant to do that, but then I never actually used his name in the message body and forgot.

Well........it is still sinking in!
There has been a bit of a $h!t-storm out of it all....and I think I got off relatively lightly compared to others, albeit was worse than I expected!
So....it looks like it is going to be option 3! But, still to finally decide which country is on the cards, although Cyprus is still the probable destination.
So the next 5 months are going to be a roller coaster. The kids still don't know, the wife is overloaded with emotion and the volume of information to and decisions to make is starting to mount! Meanwhile, I am still in the middle of the sea where nothing else is being talked about.
On the plus side, the work email has almost come to a stop!
Only thing to do is psychologically accept the situation and form/execute the plan!
Thanks for asking.

I thought I would post this here before putting it in Sugs & Bugs, in case it's just me.
Some of my clients have switched to W10, and are now using Edge, so I thought I ought to use it for a bit to become familiar with its more obvious idiosyncrasies. However, when posting in CP, I only get two, or at best three lines in the preview box, with no scroll bar.
So, two questions:
0. Does anybody else use Edge, and
1. If so, do you have the same problem.
Ha! ...and I have just noticed that if I hit the tab key, the cursor disappears completely!

You're absolutely right. I have found what I was doing wrong - I wasn't using Chrome.

PS - it's still doing it.
