Ah ok, 30 GB of game are quite a lot. I will cope with it once then backup it on the NAS. Never had to download Skyrim again, and it was fairly big when it came out.
Bethesda owns my heart and soul, for them I will make every exception - not waste money though, I wait for the discounts.

When I have to travel, it's usually not to the ar*e of the world, but you can smell it from there. In such a place without any noteworthy online connection, I just want to put in a DVD (or whatever) and then it should work. If not, they can keep their junk.

That is a perfectly good reason not even the consoles work like that anymore. Gaming while traveling without Internet (I have proper Internet connection since less than two years) is an elephanting daunting prospect.

What is a serious discount?
I bought it a few weeks ago with 50% off.
|
|

Yep and I skipped it because I didn't know if I would order my new rig this month or the coming one.
For me, regarding Fallout 4, anything from 30% is a good discount. The best IMHO would be 40-50% as I wouldprobably buy a couple of DLCs taht way.
For Deus EX: Mankind Divided I saw too many mild/bad reviews so I'll wait for a serious discount, the 66-75-80% that Steam often does. I already bought Dragon Age: Inquisition with all the DLCs bundled for 40€ so I can wait for a long time - except for FO4 which itches me quite a lot.

I came to the same conclusion when reading the reviews for DeusEx.
Waiting also for discounts on the FO DLCs.
But it can wait because I will have to play Skyrim again (the remastered 64-bit edition).

I didn't look into that, is there some discount for the folks who own the Legendary edition? I actually own both the standard and Legendary, I would feel silly to buy a third if not heavily discounted (heavily > seriously).

I got it for free having the original DVD version registered at Steam and bought all DLCs later:
Quote: PC players who own vanilla Skyrim and all of its DLC will get a copy of the Special Edition for free. This was limited until release date 28th Oct (must have purchased all DLCs before that date).
So it was limited to the PC version. I don't know if the free update is still available when the conditions are met.
I suggest to check it at Steam when logged in with your account.

I got it for free too but I didn't know that! Looks like Steam added it to my library automagically! This is luck!

Isn't Black Friday supposedly followed by Cyber Monday, which I assume is the day we're all supposed to make the most of our newly acquired webcams and 'toys' or something.

I have heard that, but I was under the impression every person that hadn't flocked Lemming like to sales went on line to find cheap things...

It certainly a good day to visit Newegg to pick up PC parts for a discount. I think I might pick up a battery back-up this year

There was a thing on the telly yesterday that said 60% of products checked on Black Friday promotions were actually cheaper before or after Black friday. Also, is it is old stock clearance. Another thing to consider is that in the UK the winter sales are starting earlier than ever, maybe up to a week before christmas, where deals can be better.

Why?
|
|
|
|
|
Black Friday is(was) a US phenomenon where people go shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, as Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday and most white collar employers give their people Friday off as well.
Over the years, several of the big stores have adapted to offer short run extreme mark-downs on various products to generate traffic.
Stores get stampeded for uber lootz, people generally act like fools, and over the last couple of years it's been migrating so that now stores open on Thursday night instead of Friday morning.
It's not a holiday, it's a steaming pile of commercialism that brings out the absolute worst in people; which is absolutely not what I tell myself when my wife heads out for it after Thanksgiving dinner.

Thats what I had heard/read about it. I don't remember the pre-Christmas sales being called 'Black Friday' until Amazon introduced the term to the rest of the World about 3 years ago. In the UK we don't have a 'Thanksgiving' pre-chrimbo, as a nation pretty much everything shuts down (unless it DFS!, who the elephant needs a new dining table boxing day?)for two days...

Yeah, that's an effort to get a Pavlovian response out of US consumers that associate Black Friday with big discounts. And that's all that is.
There are entirely too many people that, when offered a rotary toaster for $20 (retail price $99.95!), will perceive that as value, even if they have a perfectly good toaster and have never even heard of a rotary toaster.
I don't think the US is unique in this regard.
I so hope there's no such thing as a rotary toaster.

If what I have seen holds, no, not a US thing. I remember sheeple camping(?!) outside of department stores to get a bargin...

Leave it to us Americans to invent competitive shopping. The things some of these fools do to get a product that they think is 'a good deal'.
