The US presidential election is not only about the president, but a lot about local initiatives.
Such local ballot include Marijuana legalization, LGBT issues, Minimal wages...
So what did you vote for yesterday ?
I'd rather be phishing!

Here in Illinois we had a referendum to force our government to use transportation generated tax money only for transportation / infrastructure projects. They have been dipping into the proverbial cookie jar for decades while the roads and bridges suffer.
Looks like it passed with an 80% vote.

No, but at least there'll be a new sheriff in town.

Here in Oregon, there was a measure for outdoor school that passed -- basically, get the kids into the outdoors for a week where they can learn what's outside their computers and game machines.
Popular enough to pass, but probably not everybody's cup 'O tea (especially the kids, who got no vote on the matter).

Last time I was in Portland I almost died from your last big ballot measure. It was like a dense fog!

That's pretty much the description of any election around here -- there's always some big ballot measure -- although I suspect I know which one you're specifically referring to

Well, we parents did pretty much do this to our kids. Have third graders walk 8 blocks to school? No way, they should ride a school bus if its that far. Let the kids walk three blocks and cross a highway to get to the beach to play? No way, let me drive you.
I feel sorry for kids today, they get nannied practically to the point of agoraphobia. I'm just glad I grew up in a time when letting your kids do that sort of stuff was acceptable.

We had 17 Propositions[^] in California and a number of local measures (five, in my case).
There is quite a range - take a look at these:
60 - Adult Films. Condoms (required). Health Requirements.
62 - Repeal the Death Penalty.
63 - Firearms. Ammunition Sales.
64 - Marijuana Legalization.
67 - Ban on Single-Use Plastic Bags (provided by stores).
