Ordered a box of beer for the old man's birthday from Scotland yesterday afternoon. After last year's problems[^], I made sure to order it two weeks in advance.
Delivery was supposed to be 3-5 business days. It arrived at 11:58 today, in perfect condition.
Guess they weren't kidding when the said they wouldn't be using Yodel again.
Now I just need to resist the urge to drink it all at the weekend.

Since you got it so quickly you could order some more...
or get him a pair of socks and drink it yourself.

This was Amazon Prime, so they don't really have any excuse.
Mind you, the first time they tried to deliver they got the wrong house, wrong street, and managed to deliver to a bed ridden 93YO lady with Alzheimers. Still not sure how...

They haven't switched to Yodel, by any chance?

If you ever get a functional UPS delivered, I'm interested in a review. I've never used Bluewalkers products.

Amazon will replace it, that's not a problem - they collect it tomorrow.
And sometime in the new year - probably - I'll write up what I think of it.

How terribly, terribly appropriate that you put the photos on Dropbox.

What website is that? My company firewall has blocked it as inappropriate. Hope it's SFW.

Hmm, borderline maybe. I wouldn't go to HR and complain about it.
The specific picture is definitely not a problem, but you probably shouldn't click around to much if your boss hangs over your shoulder.

As far as lounge content is concerned, I think it would be better for us to post only those things that can be clicked on without worrying.
Borderline or questionable things could go into the soapbox or the backroom.

Yes I agree, I just made a search for the picture to get a link, and saw nothing bad at the first page. Next time I'll check more thoroughly.

Well, because you know Halloween = Christmas in different number systems.

Two years isn't that long a period. Besides, the joke is at least 1010 years old.

Sorry about your delivery mishaps. But I do want to know more about this 2KW UPS. How much? How long will it keep your system running in the real world?

£231, and the company says about 20 minutes (that's the PC, two monitors, NAS, and router / wifi). But "how long will it last" is a thorny question (internet experience is all over the place), and one I intended to find out tomorrow - but of course I can't because there is no way I'm plugging in a dropped UPS into my system...
You can get cheaper ones, but ... my PC has an AFPC PSU, and apparently they don't like squared-off sine waves, so I wanted a pure sine wave to make sure no problems / damage occurred.
The idea is that I can ride out short power cuts and shut down gracefully after say two or three minutes, and cope with the inevitable secondary power cuts we get a few minutes after it comes back on!

Wow. I was looking for something better than what I have, but I guess I'm already doing ok.
I have 3 APC Back-UPS XS-1300:
- One running my VM host in another room...while there's a monitor hooked up to it, it's hardly ever turned on. I've had it run over half an hour on battery only.
- One running the monitors and network gear in my home office (separate modem, router and switch); it can easily keep going for 45 minutes.
- One running the computer in my office (an Intel NUC that simply connects to the VMs hosted by my main machine). It can also go for 45 minutes.
I was given one of the UPSes, so ordinarily I'd run everything in my office off of a single one, but since I have it...splitting it this way means I can keep going longer.
