You don't know Nagy very well, do you? The mere thought of pouring tonic into his gin sends shivers down his spine!

How very dare you! I always have tonic with my gin. Sometimes I have a Montgomery [at least 15:1] and if I find that too sweet I'll go for 3 parts Gin and small nod in the direction of Calcutta

When I was a wee lad, long before the interwebs, I was the Space Cadet. I morphed through being guru and ninja, but I think the idea of Software Sorcerer, .Net Necromancer or even Java Genie works well.

Kudos. This discusses in one place many discussions I've had over the years with other developers. I especially liked your deconstruction of "methodology".

Typical - now we even have to pay air force pilots to sleep on the job! As if it wasn't enough that we've been paying commercial airline pilots for that (plus being drunk on the job) for decades...

True - Just for that reason, I would select a private airline over a governmental institution any day if I were a pilot. There, you can talk about "to serve and protect"
"Take the stick while I finish my beer, will you?"

Last night I coded a little "Hello, Ubuntu" console app, using VS Code, and compiled and ran it, all only on Ubuntu. Went without a hitch, installed .NET Core and VS Code in about 5 minutes. Worked first time.

Now, the really nice thing is that you can ran that exact code (without recompiling it even) on any OS that has .NET Core - Windows, iOS, other Linux...
(I had an article about it two months earlier)

Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

You can even pull a trick to compile it with .NET included, so the host OS needs no (probably very little) setup before running your app. Self-contained .NET Core Applications[^]

Yes, but in that case you have different builds for each platform, as .NET Core is platform dependent...

.NET Core (for Ubuntu), and the new VS Code editor.

OK, thats interesting, why is MSFT releasing for free a product for Ubuntu?
This is all kind of funny really, Microsoft got slapped on the wrist for changing the Java standard ( to J++) and got told to remove it, and all references to Java, from their products, and then came up with .Net (which is just Microsofts JVM that handles Microsofts p-code), renamd J++ to C#, and now they port it all to Linux.
They dont give up do they!
