Are you mental? You finally get to move away from the oppressive heat and humidity of Singapore and then choose the oppressive heat and humidity of Cairns.

Yeah yeah I know but I cannot afford and don't like Sydney and the rest of the family is in Cairns. At least it has a little variation, I'm looking forward to the winters where it gets down as low as 24 ah bliss.

I didn't think you would move to Sydney, but thought you may have moved a little further south to allow for things to be a bit cooler and a bit less humid.

Nope, we are an equal opportunities familiy!
I.e., These days I do most of the cooking, cleaning, laundry, ironing, and now it would seem the damn gardening as well...

Could be worse; in Spring, we have sandstorm season. Egypt is returning Sinai to us, 1 million tons at a time...

You have my whole-hearted support for that comment! But to be of help, I find the Karcher with the rotary brush attachment a much better way to clean the patio and drive. Neither you nor the surroundings etc. gets covered in detritus. It is easy and clean enough for Her Indoors to want to have a go as well; a request I do not discourage too vigourously.
I also found, many years ago, that an accidently prune of Her Indoor's favourite flowers soon put a stop to having to do any gardening. All I have to do is to cut the lawn, although sometimes I find that she has already cut it for the want of something to do. She just can't sit still until late in the afternoon when she enjoys a cup of tea.

Please point me to the proper discussion group and I'll head that way.
Item #1: Google does not lead me to the answer
Item #2: YouTube does not lead me to the answer. (YouTube is worse than nothing, those vids are incorrect and misleading)
(Apologies for sensible members here, I needed to be proactive for certain members here who will immediately respond with such inanities.)
The word "FreeCorder" appeared in front of my eyes. When I tried to find a copy (TomsGuide, and the Applian website itself) I am immediately taken to screens which want me to download video application packages.
I just want the audio.
I don't want the video.
Question: Am I going to have to use Audacity ? If so, then I will schedule twenty five hours over the next two months to learn how to do this.
If anyone has a method that actually saves a four minute sound clip in four minutes, I'm very eager to read it.

Win'7
AMD Dual Core
WalMart Cheap-O from four years ago.
I am trying to record a four minute sound file.
Opera (the web browser) plays it perfectly.
I have GoldWave.

Use Audacity. It can record any noise the internet can make. It's free and if you google record youtube with audacity you'll get the hits you need.

Thanks. If Audacity it must be, then Audacity it shall be.
Not the worst thing that could happen on my computer.
Oh, heads up for FreeCorder.
They spend so much effort on trying to sell their PayCorder that I lost interest due to the extreme obfuscation which they inject on the victim ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H user and abandoned the software before I ever used it.
i.e., "FreeCorder" is bait and switch. Don't click. Don't download. Don't install.

Used Ninite to install it, and guessed what to click.
Estimated learning curve: 10 minutes.
Audacity just recorded the audio in question.
So, Audacity it is.

I used Audacity a couple of times some years ago. The only thing I did besides hitting the record-button was to adjust the recording volume to avoid amplitude clipping. It wasn't exactly "install 'n record" but definitely far less prep time than you fear.

Ninite, click click, and walk away.
Came back, spent two or three minutes, and correctly guessed how to record from the "speakers".
So, you were correct, nothing like I expected.
I was highly surprised at how deeply GoldWave has hidden its ability to record from the sound card.
If it can do this, I wasn't able to find it.

Assuming you were replying to me, I thought I ought to have a look myself: well, it was a bit unclear, even after reading help:
1. Create a new empty file
2. Select Options>Control properties, and under the record tab select 'Monitor input' - then you can see if any signal is seen. Under device tab, select record device (probably audio input).
3. Now the VU meter should show any sound signal (I played music with Media player). Get record levels low enough.
4. Press red 'record' button and you are off...

Clicking Help then About tells me that my version is 6.23

Well, I could not believe that the feature had been dropped since my vn (5.1), so downloaded and installed the latest (v6.23) on to my W7 PC, and it appears much the same as v5.1. I grabbed screen shots of the Control properties window,, but don't know how to post them here (probably not allowed, although they are only 20 & 30 kB PNG files). I have turned on private replies in case that lets you email me directly for the screen shots.

I have replied with a private message, but don't seem to be able to confirm that anything was sent. Here is the link to hopefully 2 shared files:

Assuming you're bringing this up because you already have the means to record video along with the audio you want...you could always use that and then just use something that can extract the audio.
Even Winamp will do that - right-click an MP4 (or whatever), Send To, Format Converter, MP3.

There are online tools to convert video to audio.

I haven't used Goldwave in quite a while, but I thought one could record with it - and its help file says one can (old vn 5.10). I have also used MediaCoder to convert videos, and it can apparently record also (but its user interface is fairly complex).
