There is a very big difference between abuse and hurting ones feeling, if you happen to be sensitive.
Since I didn't read the posts/comments in question, I can't tell. There are people here that are so hyper-sensitive that they will mark you post as abuse, if you hurt there feelings.

It consisted (IIRC) of 5 words, two of which were offensive, and was expecting a strong (and otherwise unprovoked) dislike of his user name.
You don't have to be sensitive to find that abusive if you don't know the other person at all.

Of course not. If foul language directed at another person was used, then of course that is abusive. Like I said, I did not read the original "offending" post(s).

One reply to his posting (which didn't look spam-connected) was very abusive about his username.
I agree that the username worries me, too, but I wouldn't have used such bad language unless I were kidding.

If you mean the swear words regarding your choice of username (which isn't brilliant, I must admit) it was noticed over ten hours ago Our Resident Troll is back - CodeProject[^] and his account closed as a result.
Unfortunately, we get trolls occasionally and there is little you can do to prevent this kind of thing other than moderation of all messages - which would take resources us volunteers don't have, and slow posting to a crawl. We do try to respond quickly to such messages though - it took a while today because it's a Sunday (Mother's Day in the USA and Oz as well) and the site is very quiet.

The abusive responses to my questions are typically found in my inbox from over night as the perpetrators are typically in a slightly different time zone that me.
So I'm all like "Come over here and say that"
I'm pretty sure they won't.

If you don't like receiving abuse by e-mail, uncheck "E-mail me if someone replies to this message".
That will at least stop the abuse from CP(but you'll still get it from the other sources that regularly send you abusive e-mails.

Hi Griff, I eventually got a Win 10 clean install and would like to restore some data from my AOMEI backup, I've booted from my pe disk and selected explore image which tells me the partitions are mounted and viewable with My Computer - the problem is I can't see an option to open My Computer anywhere ? It's probably operator error any idea ?

Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

It mounts it as a virtual disk: so just open Windows Explorer (WIN+E will do it) and look for the drive letter. (It'll have the volume name as the drive name, so in my case under "This PC"/"Devices and Drives" I'd have "GriffData (I:)")

Glad to see you got it going. The problems went away after the clean install - right?

What I did differently this time is update all the drivers from Dells site before running the update and it was fine - what's puzzling me is - why do I need to do a clean install after upgrading when the upgrade worked fine ?

If the upgrade works - fine. Don't bother with a clean install.
I believe that one thing that is different about a clean install, is that the installer will search the Internet for the correct drivers, while an upgrade uses the existing drivers. However, I am not sure about this. Your experience where the problems went away after you manually updated drivers, seems to confirm this.

Ok that makes sense - I do think the clean ( although a lot of work reinstalling everything ) install is good though nothing like a good old format to clear everything out - I am now a Win 10 ( albeit forced on me ) user. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to 10! One further suggestion: Use Griff's suggested AOMEI to make systems drive images from time to time. And save the images on an external USB-connected drive that is not normally connected to the computer. This will give you an image to revert to, if you are ever attacked by a Ransom virus. Also keep backups of your data on a similar drive, in case a Ransom virus encrypts all data files on your machine and drives connected to your machine.

Consider using one with two partitions: One partition for images and the other for data backups.
