After your very usefull replies like or or even i guess you are a website programmer that spams the client with all that bullish. Get over it, nobody wants to be annoyed by stupid and vulnerable ads that trash your pc.

Let us be clear; it is my PC, I pay for the electricity, I decide what the damn machine does. I never gave any website owner the permission to load third-party crap that they do not take responsibility for.
As for the revenue, that is not just coming from ads - and those tracking-cookies will not be around permanently either.

My bandwidth, my PC, my time. Ads steal all of them, plus the malware they often try to install. Keeping thieves out is very well in my rights.

Actually, using a hosts block is very different. If CNN really wants me to see an ad, then they need to host it on cnn.com.
If cnn.com is trying to display something from ShadyNetwork.cx, then they deserve to get their crap blocked. They made this bed, now they get to lie in it.
Of course, it will never happen because if CNN is hosting an ad on cnn.com and I get malware from it, then CNN is financially liable. The third party ad network not only reduces a small but not insignificant amount of bandwidth for them, but it shields them from legal liability when ads go wrong.
I don't know the statistics on the situation, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that ad networks were the #1 vector for malware infections.

I use IE for browsing and I have Chrome set up to disable javascript and some sites I view in Chrome for this very reason, and it's almost always news sites or any other kind of content-focussed site. I've got quite good and looking at a url and predicting that I should open it in Chrome.

When I need to download Chrome.

Flashblock, AdBlock Plus and some sites in hosts... I rarely see ads anymore, even in YouTube videos. Hosts is for the crappy sites sponsorised by Google, such as ask and softonic.

Hi All,
Odd question why do some members care about rep points, other members, normally regulars (such as Nagy, Griff & few others) don't give a four X about it, some like below guy cares. It's not as if you will meet them at work or socially... but just have a and calm down.

As The Doctor said of museums, "It's how I keep score".
I don't directly care about the points themselves, but I like seeing my profile advance up "Page 2 of 612,205" of the Who's Who.
On the other hand, having a high rep means having a responsibility.

Bruno (the guy below) obsessed with the idea that members with hi reputation points can do anything to those with low, which of course only shows, that he didn't has the historical view...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

It's for self gratification and attention getting.

I must admit I care a little about my reputation.
Not Lounge reputation (I think I pretty much ruined that with some Songs of the Week ), but "article writing", and "helping others" reputation.
Although I don't do QA anymore and I haven't written an article/blog in a while I can proudly say I'm a legend and an authority and, on a website such as this, that means something.
The points are nice, but nothing beats having a (highly) esteemed CP member giving a compliment on one of your articles (as in leaving a message and, optionally, rating a 4 or 5)

When I can trade my rep points for mortgage payments or lottery tickets, then I'll care. They are utterly meaningless.
