Richard invited people "more diplomatic than himself" to join the discussion. On that ground I have to recuse myself.

OK.
Swedish sense of humour.
I don't get it.
Mind you, it can't be as weird as the Finnish...

Oh, I see what you're doing, but it either needs to use more carefully sculpted words, or be audio/visual. It ain't hitting the spot that you were aiming at.

He's not even Swedish.
Then again, I am, and I don't get it most of the time.

I was going to call him German, but that would have been too obvious, and a lot of people (from everywhere except Sweden and Switzerland) mix them up, so I went with that.

I guessed as much, it was mostly the second sentence I wanted to point out.
Swedish humour is mostly aiming for embarrassment, which isn't my cup of tea. But as you might imagine, the Office is mighty popular here.

Mark, If you don't watch out, I will say something nice about China. What will you do then? Huh? What will you do then?

Even if you don't understand, I'm sure Mark does. His wife is from China as far as I know. I've been to China - even deep into the Hebei province, as well as Beijing and the Great Wall. Fascinating country!

The people and the government are great. It's the party members who are like traffic wardens with too much power.

Don't be silly.
You're American; you're programmed to jerk your knees and wrap yourself in a flag, at the mention of certain other races!
Try to put the point across that other races are just people, like the rest of us, and the knee-jerkers will start calling you names and acting like you're evil.

Let's get serious for a moment: I have seen Chinese people at work with my own eyes in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and here in the USA. They are an intelligent and industrious people that I admire, but I will never accept the Chinese governmental system (excluding what I saw in Taiwan and Hong Kong). They could be so much more in a free society!
