Sad to see the Okie From Muskogee is gone. Local radio station played a lot of his songs yesterday.
The appeal? It's blue collar, working class, no pretense (I'm excluding the pop star crossovers here). Haggard wrote songs that related to everyday life:
"We don't wear our hair long and shaggy,
like the hippies out in San Francisco do"
Course I was one of those long haired types back then but I still liked the song.

It's like other genres, most of it is awful but some of it is outstanding - some great lyrics, great musicianship and often social commentary

I was thinking about who will be at the funeral service: Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Jessie Colter, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle... that would be an AWESOME experience... think of the after service get together...

What's the appeal of pop music?
What's the appeal of rap?
What's the appeal of disco?
What's the appeal of classical?
You see how that works?

Back again to haunt the lounge. Either the IT department resetted the visible sites for some reason or CP had changed again the source address of its layout... and CP had no style again for me for the past month or two. Since I already sent a request for CP a short while before I preferred not to pull too much rope (requests of any kind are VERY poorly received from the Company) and renounced CP for a while. Now I'm back, until the next changes

There was another change in the CDN URL (to codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net) after switching the provider. Hopefully this will be not changed for some time.

Doing the Java update on my work PC (I won't let it anyway near my own machines) I noticed again Oracle's claim that "3 billion devices run Java".
I call BS.
I suspect most of those are things like older feature phones that are now languishing in a bin somewhere.

Not really, for some arcane reason many tv, dvd players and digital TV receivers have the firmware written in java.

My words, really. I had a digital TV receiver that took 20 friggin minutes to boot. And crashed a lot. I hated it until the day it literally crashed. Me dad's less patience than me.

It was broke, so I fixed it.

Many (all?) SIM cards and "smart" cards are programmed with Java.
I'd say its entirely possible.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.
