Well put, Bill. I feel that the temptation to be dictatorial on the Q&A forum needs to be resisted. Members should be free to post and answer questions without being bullied by others who think they know what’s best for them. To me, passing judgement on posters, when nothing is known about them or their circumstances, is somewhat unfair. Surely, virtue is not found by deprecating the needy but by offering them unconditional help?

Hm, I don't see anything when I mouse-hover over the link to a question in QA. Where are you seeing this?

After the first 30 or 40 cm fall, snow can really suck.
After the next 30 or 40 cm fall, one simply glares stupidly at the sky, wondering whatever was done by whom to deserve this.

Yup. You guys have it easy. If the snow falls and drifts too high, you just shake the ground for a while so everything settles down nice and flat.
(There's no place safe, is there?)

If you're referring to earthquakes, there was a 4.1 close to here this weekend. No one even notices unless it's >= 6.9.
My brother lives in Florida. His wife is terrified of coming to California because of earthquakes. Yet she lives in a state that is routinely hit with 3 or 4 hurricanes every year.
A quake big enough to mean anything happens rarely and rarely cause significant damage. See The Loma Prieta Earthquake of 1989[^]. Compare to the 7.1 quake in Alaska this weekend[^] which cause little damage.
Hurricanes happens EVERY YEAR and cause billions in damage.
I don't get her fear.

You do see the humor in getting so used to earthquakes you ignore the small ones? Maybe that Florida lady isn't all that crazy. No one tends to ignore hurricanes - even small one.

People ignore small earthquakes because they're barley felt and cause no damage.
Even a 'small' hurricane causes damage.

Fascinating talk, but I don't think I would want to do FP in C++!
Then again, I'm so removed from C++, the questions people were asking sounded like greek to me. Funny how things changed, I used to do all my programming in C++, until Microsoft came out with C#.
