I used to. I don't anymore.
Just curious here but, are you alright, or just commenting in general about your seasonal depression?

Seasonal depression only, but thanks for asking.

Well I have some bad memories about these times - my grandfather died right around New Years and we had the service either on the 30th or 31st of December. That wasn't a fun New Years Eve. But otherwise no.
I mean I'm not the person who is out partying and smiling and dancing. But I keep to myself and to what I want to do. Sometimes in a small closed company.

Yep. Every year at this time I go from feeling overworked to bored! Since clients aren't calling, I'm having to look around for stuff to do...such as yesterday when I finished the first of around 100 modules, getting rid of ADODB COM references. Only 99 more to go!

Yes. But then I get depressed whatever the time of year is!
|
|
|
|
|
Yes, I do, and it's been a life-long aspect of my whatever; in my family, myself and two other siblings both manifest SAD (seasonal affective disorder) ... that's three out of four children. By SAD, I mean: shift of the sleep-cycle, poor sleep, symptoms as found in "jet lag," mood fluctuation (often negative), tendencies to avoid social contact, increased sensitivity to any perceived negative social feedback, frequent negative self-talk and ideation.
fyi: both my sister and I became psychotherapists (she's still doing that).
For me the usual period of onset is early to mid-November. My sister uses light-box therapy every year starting in November, and into late January.
Moving permanently to a tropical country really did change the phenomenon for me, but, having learned to deal with it over fifty years of my adult life (I'm 72), I have a variety of ways I can cope with it which include: working out more frequently until exhausted (seems to help re-establish my "normal night-owl" sleep pattern, throwing myself into complete absorption in some creative project.
But, it's important to distinguish a recurring syndrome like SAD which may well have a genetic component and an environmental component (the latitude you grew up in), from other forms of depression related to specific losses, social isolation, stress, poor health, etc.
If you feel you are really depressed, and want a friendly ear to e-mail to who won't judge you, or give you advice, but may offer you information ... send me a reply to this message.
cheers, Bill

Good, it's not just me. Most of the time, I have to listen to the Mrs worry about making this adult child happy or that adult child happy. in-laws (as in sons and daughters) start fussing.
