I pay almost $60 for about 20mbps on a good day. I'm lucky enough to have a provider that isn't Comcast or TWC (although they're not much better). Some people in the cities pay ridiculous amounts for like 50mbps. I'm not sure 150mbps would even be considered.

Pretty impressive that they can deliver email to you when you haven't got an Internet connection. Sounds well worth the extra £4.49 per month!
Also, how did you post that message if you're off-line? Are you some sort of wizard[^]?

I do have a phone with a data connection, that's my only link with the outside world at the moment, tethered to my PC when I'm @ home. I feel like I'm in the dark ages, its amazing how much I/we rely on the internet these days.

I used to have a phone w/Virgin Mobile.
I hate them.
Hate there patronizing and useless India Customer Service.
Hate the quality of service (last to recover from Sandy by 6 months == 300% longer)
(I hate them even more than I do Verizon)

Thanks for the reply.
I hate them too now, the thing is this is the first problem I've had in nearly 20 years, I can't help but think I'm being unreasonable and that I should give them 6 months to fix it, but then again I'm not at all confident they will, nobody seems to know what the problem actually is anyway.
I get a different answer from each person I speak to.
I asked to be put back to a lower data-rate, like the 100mbps I was on, before these problems started they refuse to do that, apparently its "very difficult" to do so.

I did email their ceo, that resulted in a quick response from "a member of his department" but its actually achieved nothing either, this gent seemed to agree I'd be better off leaving Virgin Media too.

One item I failed to include in my first reply: there is no way to contact Virgin Mobile directly. You go through their support - who stonewall.
Can't change you back? Add "Elephanting Liars" to their resume.
Too hard? That's there problem.
Your lost service? If their like the US based version, they issue NO REFUNDS once they got your money.
I suppose, if you talk to them again, you might note that if it's too hard for them to change you back then you'll find a provider who is willing to work harder for you.
You might also link their parentage to your pet's breeding habits.

Luckily, there are still libraries in the big cities. Maybe one near you.

I'm with Virgin media too and was somewhat miffed when I got that letter.

So this year, I am doing a competition where we are given an app concept that we must build. It's a small competition and I like to see who I am up against so I decided to do some research on past winners. To my suprise Last year's national winner (that's U.S.) was absolute crap. His app had no set color scheme, there was poor contrast between controls and backgrounds, majority of the app were UIWebViews (wtf why not just use a hybrid solution) that loaded poorly done web pages. The app was nearly 80mb in total.
But that's not all. Looking at his GitHub repo, alot of his code was copied and pasted from Appcoda.(an iOS development tutorial site) He didn't even remove the copyright in the comments -_-. The other half was written by his friend (who as far as I can tell received no recognition.
This is sad. While the competition is for high school students, this is pathetic. I may sound cocky, but I feel like I might be winning nationally this year.

Well, I've had to suffer through my third Win7 install in the span of two months (three different computers). This one was my laptop. It's taking an awful long time to get Windows Update to do anything. Even with a wired 1gb ethernet connection, it took FOUR HOURS before it started downloading updates (after I clicked he "download updates" button).
I'm thinking I could blame this on global warming, since Obama is blaming everything else on it.

Would this be due to Global Warming?
Someone had to say it, sorry!

I think you might be on to something. I know that there are several large data centrals here in Sweden, some placed far north and according to what I've concluded myself sources it's to reduce cooling costs. But this years winter has so far proved very warm and they probably has shut down the ac because why not it's winter and the season should do its job which results in overheated centrals.
So it'd guaranteed that its global warming that's at fault here.
Soon these data housings will be placed in the arctic to reduce their environmental impact but it will only result in the ice melting around these installations and speeding up climate change but don't tell anyone. We don't want the environmentalists to figure out that the internet is becoming a factor in global warming or they will impose environmental taxes on porn internet traffic.
