A friend sent me a link to a Pinterest page with an Aztec medallion which has some symbolic content somewhat similar to some of the animist iconography found in northern Thailand (which I collect and am interested in). There were other artifacts previewed on that page I would have liked to study.
After about 15 seconds of browsing the page, Pinterest blocked the view with the sign-up-or-go-away page.
Given I know that Pinterest has various relationships with FaceBook, Twitter, etc., I don't like the idea of giving them any personal information, nor am I interested in getting involved with "social pinning," or whatever else they do.
Is there a way to have an account there, and kind of have a "magic shield" around you where they don't know anything beyond the fact you logged in, and what you have looked at ?
thanks, Bill

They probably require you to verify the account with an email address, surely you have a shadow account you use for these type of info vacuums. I think there is event a site that supplies dummy accounts specifically for this type of thing, have to go looks around as I can't the details.

Thanks, Brisingr, that does work, although they soon started putting up recurring messages about "account ... for strange activity;" however, those messages can be closed, and one can go back to browsing the images.
I guess their server code is "smart" enough to recognize simultaneous log-ins using the same entry-validation from multiple IP addressees all over the world
But, I felt so dirty every time I dismissed one of their pop-ups that I had to go wash my hands every time.

I'm increasingly seeing this kind of thing, and warnings that I am "running adblock".
My solution is simple. Buh Bye.
If they have a prerequisite that using their site implies that I give consent to have my privacy violated by a bunch of marketing losers, then I will simply leave. There's nothing there that I need that badly. (see: Google)

In most cases, my solution is to block the "don't use adblock" div.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

What I speak of here has no connection with sites that detect you are using an ad-blocker and put up whatever.

And I was watching "The Fellowship of the Ring" again.

I'll have to do it without the missus, however. She doesn't like what they did to The Hobbit.

We definetely love it, we also watched all the 9 hours of extras of the first and half of the second (4 hours more or less).
Also we'll rewatch all the Star Wars - at least the original trilogy - before the Force Awakens will be in theatres. Usually at least once a year we see all LOTR and all SW... it's good to be two nerds

I avoid The Hobbit as well. I got out of watching the first two, but I got the short straw and had to take the kid to the third.

Stipulated - the 'The Hobbit' film trilogy follows the book very loosely, so it fails as an adaption of the book. If you view them as works in their own right, they hold up much better.
(Assuming you like this type of adventure tale)

I have the "Special Extended DVD Edition" of each LOTR -- cardboard boxes that look vaguely like books, four discs per book. We watch at least once a year.
The kid has "Special Editions" of the three Hobbits. I've seen bits as I've walked by when he's been watching it.

While I'm waiting for a job to finish, I might as well share THIS[^] with you! I find it hilarious, and I'll start planning the inscription on my tombstone straight away. No kidding!
Actually, the last one is not too bad, I might go with that... (or I would have if it wasn't for the fact that I HATE Javascript)

No, I am of course very, very sorry! I bow my head in shame
I'd better go get myself another vodka shot (I'm out of stout)

... and I'm working. So sad.
And instead of preparing to turn into a pumpkin, I'm desperately seeking the Balmer Peak[^] with equal amounts of my favourite stout and vodka shots (haven't told my employer about that - They'd just encourage driking on the job). I'll try to be carefull and not overshoot it... Ah what the hell, who gives an elephant?
