Sad. If you posted this in the Soapbox, then I would comment further.

Drone shot down over Turkey[^]
So is this a Quad-copter or a multi-rotor or a proper "Drone". I think the Media's and the BBC's obsession with calling hobby grade multi-rotors with cameras "Drones" may well backfire on them here a bit.
Who cares if the Turkish Airforce shoots down a flying toy, a Military craft then perhaps.
PS I'm a bit biased as I do fly hobby grade "Multi-rotor" craft.

Got my first multi-rotor a couple of weeks ago. They are huge amounts of fun.

They are, what did you get?

I got an X5C in the summer.
Sure, they look a lot of fun, but sooner or later you'll find yourself climbing up a very tall tree whilst your kid sits crying at the bottom.
Fortunately it was only the lowest branch that gave way under my weight as I came back down again afterwards.

Been there and done that both for mine and fellow fliers models. Its much safer to use a big stick though, we use a bunch of old tent poles lashed together.

It was a very tall tree.
It must have been at least 25 years and 5 or 6 stone since I was last up one, I was holding on very tight and shaking quite a lot up at the top.

The one we recently retrieved was around 50-60ft up. There was no way we were climbing that tree.
Better to send the kids up, they bounce, when we hit the ground things break.

It was one of these trees[^]. They've had 5 years growing since this was taken.
It was the first day I'd used it, problem was when it started going the wrong way I panicked and hit the power at which point it just drifted into the trees.

I see what you mean, they are quite tall. Best option in that case would be to call the Turkish Airforce and get them to shoot it down.

Those don't look like "climbing" trees, anyhow.

That looks good and definitely a Drone according to the media it has a camera.
Do you fly it in Headless mode?
|
|
|
|
|
Until I'm more confident with it, yes. The camera's pretty good.
|
|
|

I've been impressed with the camera on mine, the pictures it took hovering just above my living room carpet when I first got it are quite disturbing. Needs a bloody good clean.

Aw! No fair!
Battery: 7.4V 2000Mah Li-poly
Charging time: About 200 minutes
Flying time: About 7 minutes
So, if we ignore MarketingDweebSpeak, that's 3 1/2 hours to charge it, and 5 minutes in the air?
Frustrating, I'd have thought unless you have a huge pile of spare batteries ready to quick swap.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

When I bought mine it came with 4 spare batteries.

Get yourself a better charger. I need about 50 minutes for my 5000 mAh 6s lipos.

This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

What charger do you recommend.

I have a Robbe Power peak D7, but Robbe recently went out of business. I know someone who has a charger with a 2000W power supply, so that he can charge up to six Lipos at once.

That is a bit of a slow charging rate, agreed. I normally charge at 1-2C so the battery is fully charged in < 30 minutes.
7 minutes flight time is about average for most flying craft with normal sized batteries to be honest, until we get lightweight compact nuclear power systems.

I think 'normal' helicopters do a little better than multicopters. With the T-rex 550 I could fly 10 minutes. With half symetric blades and a lower headspeed even something around 14 minutes is possible.

Agreed, my T-rex 550 can manage similar flight times, not when doing 3D though.
I could also strap a 20000mah 3s Lipo to my 600 size quad frame and get 30+ minutes though if required.
Have you ever tried 250 racing quads with FPV? Great fun! Also the most rapidly expanding aspect of the hobby.
