I lately read an article by someone who asked ChatGPT to be a DungeonMaster for a game... at the beginning it was no wanting to help, but the guy kept pushing and it eventually started to help with the game plot.

And yes, stories are a script; they also often contain a "moral", which is another thing "modern" AI doesn't have.
MS took a previous AI chatbot offline after it spawned pro-Hitler quotes it been fed from the internet. That's what I see, and advanced chatbot; bot no AI in laymans terms.
There's no intelligence involved, it is smoke and mirrors. You'd prolly be shocked, shocked I say, to hear it's about money. Now gimme my quantum computer that been promised for 20+ years
AI is modeled after humans, right? So, do not expect intelligence any time soon. Expect an AI that wants to be adressed as "zir" to avoid gender confusion.

So, I tried not to be too cynical, and you fill the gap right away.
The average person now assumes computers can "think", because ChatGPT gives the illusion it does. What we really need is a good war to test this new technology.

I would say take Fallout 4 for example.
A named NPC like Desdomona would have pre-recorded dialogue, as she controls major story points and such.
However, of the 20 settlers, all named "Settler" at Outpost Zimonja could be driven somewhat by a ChatGPT style systems.
Sure as hell better than always hearing "Farming's as honest as honest work gets" and "Easy livin' this ain't" over and over again when you talk to them.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.

I happen to like that game, and it serves just fine as an example, even if you don't enjoy it.
A settler is just a generic "filler" NPC that occupies a settlement in-game. It doesn't really matter. The point is their dialog is fairly limited and very fixed. It shouldn't have to be.

That's a lame improvement. Sorry.

Occasionally, I game. A current intrest of mine is MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries.
Someone took all the protagonist's voice lines and re-did them with AI based text-to-speech, so you can play as a female protagonist instead. The result is actually very impressive, and kinda sold me on AI based text-to-speech.
If feel like this could open the door for generated content with full AI-generated voice acting. Since none of it needs to be done in real time, you could basically let GPT decide the mission parameters and backstory, with fully spoken dialogue, and maybe the occasional multi-mission sub-plot.

Its not bad enough that people play these silly puzzles but they feel the uncontrollable need to endlessly post their results.
