Thanks for passing on that comment, Richard. It's a shame the comment thread wasn't cc'ed to me. It's hard to learn new things when you're excluded from a discussion. It would've been helpful if I'd gotten some sort of canned message about why my post disappeared and how it could become acceptable. Instead, it just went into a black hole.
It seems the key difference between an ad and an acceptable press release is whether it's written in 2nd person or 3rd person. From the press release right below mine: "This product also makes an excellent alternative for those professionals that work in their own home-offices." Changing "their own home-office" to "your own home-office" would make it an advertisement.
One of the oddest things is that my post is now a zombie. It says "Message Removed" and I can't delete the entry. Makes me wonder why the entry wasn't simply removed.

- I just noticed a Stack Overflow field in the VS 2012 title bar. I typed stuff in but it doesn't seem to do anything. You can right click the title bar and there's an option there to remove it.
When does CP get that?
- Right click the VS 2012 title bar and there's an option to change the title bar text... um, WTF for???
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

Hmmm...must be something you installed because that's not standard in VS2012 including Update 4. There's a Quick Launch bar, looks something like a search box, but that doesn't go to SO.

Again, that's got to be something you installed because it's not in my standard install of VS2012.

That's part of the VSCommands[^] extension.

Hi all, I have a few questions about the community here. I have been a member for a long time, but I have not really been active till recently.
- How tight is the community here? Do people just get on here and post anon, or is there a guy like Bob who is a regular and most of the community know him?
- What is the purpose of reputation. Do other people see it?

What's there not to click? It's a link to a picture of Matt Smith's Doctor Who, saying, "Sheep are cool!"

Tighter than a buntline hitch.

Yes.
James_Parsons wrote: What is the purpose of reputation.
It gets you huge discounts in Winchells on jelly donuts. (It really has no meaningful purpose)
James_Parsons wrote: Do other people see it?
Not always: some people just never get it.
Welcome and enjoy.

so thanks for that question - the man to answer it is the very helpful and talented Christian Graus - he would be our most helpful member who likes nothing more than to answer newbies questions. Cheerful good natured type, move over Ace Rimmer we've got Christian - He tells me he particularly enjoys assisting with homework assignments. Drop him an email he'll be keen to hear from you.

There are a number of people, quite a few, who regularly support the forums with about 10 outstanding participant. These can be identified by their reputation. Anonymous, anyone with an ounce of paranoia will be anonymous on the interweb!

James_Parsons wrote: How tight is the community here? Do people just get on here and post anon, or is there a guy like Bob who is a regular and most of the community know him? The community here is so slack that over 11 million souls can fit into it with only occasional belches from its servers. However, it is important you know that we are all irregular emanations of Bob, and that the regularity of Bob cannot be experienced directly here ... by us. One could say that Bob knows all of us in toto, while we know Bob only by the shadows of his radiance creating vortices of turbulence in our own shadows which anti-alias them so we perceive smooth edges instead of barbed wire.James_Parsons wrote: What is the purpose of reputation. Do other people see it? No mystery there: it's an attempt to recognize technical excellence in contributions to CP. While many claim not to see it, the truth is everyone sees it, and only a few understand it. There are a few, here, with very high reputations to whom reputation is very, very, important ... to the point that they are obsessed with it: imho, they are worth ignoring.
