It's neither here nor there at the moment. My request to purchase VS2015 for the other members of my team is "on hold" until some time in Q4. Given that we may not be able to buy it until early next year, going ahead with a pilot project in VS2015 is probably fairly practical.

In my case several VS versions generally means I'm trying to trace why some edge case works the way it does by going back to older versions of the application to figure out when it changed. While I've eliminated the VS 05/08 needs by updating the solutions to a newer version; the original VS03 version of the app uses a major 3rd party UI component that doesn't work in anything newer than .net 1.1.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

While it's known that the later version of VS can co-exist peacefully, having 2003 would make me a little nervous.
That's definitely a case where isolating everything by running multiple VMs makes a lot of sense.

We've never had trouble getting anything from VC6 on from living side-by-side. I'll admit our scope has been fairly limited to C++ until VS2008, and C++/C# since then. I'm sure web developers would have a different view.

I don't do web development, so I wouldn't know--but it does make sense.
I vaguely recollect something about different instances overwriting each other's environment variables for the path to various tools and such, and the compiler/linker getting mightily confused about that.
But, that was probably over a decade ago, and I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details.
Thanks to VMs, nowadays I have no problem running practically any development tool on my machine, no matter how old or how (un)cooperative it is with other instances.
