Computing history will turn out to be a sad day for all of us I'm afraid........ Sorry Bruce Scheiner officially jaded me out. I'm off to Walden's Pond...

Just a suggestion - what if we make it the other way round? Instead of answering, let someone (probably the winner from the previous day) set a random word and others set clues for it. After certain time, say 4-5 hours, the best one (the one the poster likes the most or with most upvotes), wins and the poster (who had set the clue) gets to set the word the next day.
That way if would give fair time for everyone.
I ain't got no signature.

Now, do your magic
if(this.signature != "")
{
MessageBox.Show("This is my signature: " + Environment.NewLine + signature);
}
else
{
MessageBox.Show("404-Signature not found");

It's a thought for a different type of game.
Might work...have a think for a while about rules and such like before you start it (gotta prevent the same guy posting it every day because he didn't like any of the answers etc.)
Not sure about the "Most upvotes" bit: sounds a bit like "fishing for rep points" and what do you do in the event of a tie? Doesn't it need balancing with "that's terrible" votes, which we can't do in the lounge?

Well, for me, your message show a post date of 4:17 AM.
While I could have solve this WSO CCC, at 4:17 AM my time, I was still sleeping...
Perhaps if the WSO CCC was delayed by 5 hours or so, others MAY have a chance to reply with an answer.

By needs a little work do you mean that the words aren't spelt the same, if so it's because it's a homophone which is a standard cryptic crossword device.

You'll have to excuse Griff, he's homophonic.

Yes, they are - but they normally have a "sounds like" indicator as part of the clue.

Um .. er .. no! No, really, just no. Homophones must always be indicated. Trust me, I'm a cruciverbalist!
I suspect you are confusing this with a cryptic definition which is not at all the same thing!

Damnit, I know the answer for once, but I couldn't write a clue if my bacon depended on it.
