Listening to the users != doing what the users want.
Common mistake in believing so.
I believe they've listened well, analysed the data properly, and then they involved marketing...

Can live tiles please just go away and die.
I want to work. I want to get me own stuff done. Having the Operating System (of all things) constantly trying to grab your attention is insanity. Let apps do that so at least we have a choice to uninstall them, but the OS should be completely invisible to us.
cheers

On Facebook, there are these "memes", One I particularly
like is, "Being a good programmer is 3% talent and 97%
not being distracted by the internet". So now, it looks
like that task will be even harder . I thought that
Microsoft was good for business. All this imposed
distractions, reminded me on how Huxleyan (i.e. Brave New
World) our existence is becoming .

It is very simple...
If Microsoft rules the OS market - and it means the it able to sell OS to the majority (and developers are a minority) - it will force developers to work with Microsoft's OSes...Like it or not...
So when Microsoft states that it listening to users it does not mean you!!!
(And for that matter Windows is not an OS only for along time - and the OS role is less relevant for Microsoft with every release...)
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

Hmmm... app development time... wonder how much $$ I could make injecting a system level dll to defeat the live tiles?

Great analysis and reporting on that. Thanks for the info.
Also you said,

We will all use it though. We will.
I'm serious and joking and I don't know if it's funny or not. Probably not.

I take it this is the first build of Windows 10 you've installed, then.

Dear System Admin nerds
Coders get cranky with you when they supply you with installation packages that they have tested, you then tell said coders to test in the "company's" software delivery system.
This gets tested and it fails - coder then spends time trying to figure out why.
Coder then discovers Software isn't getting installed in the expected location.
Coder has conversation with "admin" type dude to find out why - coder then discovers installer has been edited to change installation path/name to suit the new (unheard of) rules/installation policy.
Coder gets cranky and tears "admin" a new one about "communication". Particularly when coder had to fix said software (in a rush) in the first place due to a change that admin made earlier wot broke software for many important users.

Hmmm...well, to be honest, if some software doesn't let me install in a location of my choosing, I'd get rather peeved...

That's a first? An inquirer in QA tagged his question with "NoEffort" himself. Apparently it also has a positive ring to it. Or was it an anticipated confession? His question: "How to implement 5 stars Rate System?!"
Like a 4 star system, just one star more?

I think it's all related to the site settling down after the move as I don't recall seeing that tag when I first spotted the question.
Strangely, like OriginalGriff before me, I posted a comment (currently 1 hour ago) before the OP posted his question (currently 32 minutes ago)

InsideFootball interview[^]Guinea-Bissau FA president Manuel Nascimento Lopes: "I'm a Christian and this is blasphemy," Elsewhere the church of England's site is quoting "Church of England decline accelerates, while other faiths grow" ... presumably it's this Blatterlam (or is it The Blatterians?) that's growing whilst pointing out the obvious is just "blasphemy".

Hmm. That depends on the ratio of the mass of the toast and the mass of the cat. Or is it an inverse-square relationship?...
