Kenny Loggins and the year 1978?

Hope somebody can help me ...
I have a Dell laptop here with Windows in all kinds of a mess.
I have partitioned the hard drive to C:Windows & D:Data & I have moved all the data that needs to be kept to D:
If I now re-boot & use the Recovery Partition to re-install Windows 7 to the C: drive, will it install it to my newly partitioned C: drive and leave the D: drive alone, or will it recreate Windows EXACTLY as it originally was & I will lose my D: drive & my data ?
Thanks in advance

Regardless how you recover your system's partition, I will recommend that you first copy your entire D: partition to an external drive, just in case.....

Seconded!

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I know exactly what you mean! My family calls me "The Mad Backer Upper" for very good reason. But my obsession with backups has saved my bacon on a number of occasions!

You should back up your data first, as mentioned already.
Then, you set the partitions (volume name and sizes) as you are installing the software, I would think. Just do a clean install. After the install is done, bring in your "D" drive stuff.
You will need to install all of your drivers, etc..

Thanks to you all, and yes, I know that I should back up to an external disk, but I don't have one to hand, hence my question !!!

Get a thumb drive. A stone tablet, something.
In this day and age, there is no excuse good enough for not having something to back up on. My opinion. Not trying to be harsh.

As it happens, I needn't have worried !!!
First, the data that needed backing up fitted easily onto a pen drive I have and second, all of the data is backed up anyway !!!
Thank you for all your comments and efforts though ... and you are all right, I should be more prepared !!!

At the rate he's posting jibberish (even by lounge standards), I'd agree.

Ugh! I remember attending a Victor Borge show in Pretoria some 40 years ago. Thanks for reminding me of my advanced age! And today happens to be my birthday!
