I don't think he needs any assistance with that, if you ask me.

Here[^] you go! Please see the message and the thread as well.
Actually I think there was another thread discussing the quality of his* articles being shown in the Featured Articles, but not able to find it at the moment.
* He was the one who deleted all his articles after getting several uni-votes and has added them back. I am sure you will know who I am talking about.

I see the layout of posts has changed... you now have to click on 'view the replies to this message' to see the thread's replies. Not sure I like it... not as easy / friendly as it used to be. I miss the old ctrl+arrow navigation to read the threads.
Edit: my apologies.... I recently uninstalled and reinstalled my browser and the layout was on thread view. Switched back to 'normal'. All good now

Have a look at the bar just below the "New Discussion" button, and check the setting of your "Layout".
Switch it back to "Normal" and press the "Update" button.

I'm about to give up on this POS. It's becoming impossible to use, owing to constant delays attributed to "waiting for cache" or "Waiting for AppCache." No amount of googling returns any useful information or fixes, so I'm about to abandon it as a failed experiment. Does anyone know of a way to return Chrome to a functional state? If not, is there a usable browser out there?

First, I'd ask if you're using the 32 bit version or the 64 bit one.
Next, I'd ask if you've got a (caution: technical content ahead) bajillion extensions installed.
Finally, I'd ask what kind of a connection and pc you've got.
I'm running the x64 one on this lappie - an 8gb dual-core i7 asus.
I'm running the x86 one on an older machine - a 4gb i3 acer.
Each machine is running Win7 (Pro and Home Prem respectively) and is wifi-tethered to a 3g mobile connection.
I never see either of the messages you mention. Performance is always snappy and I'm happy.
I'd try disabling all plugins to see if any/all of them are the source of your discontent.
I do hear pretty good things about Opera[^]. I stopped using it for reasons I forget - something to do with the API offered to plugins not suiting the aims I had at the time.

I'm using Opera and I like it. It uses Chrome's browsing engine. Using v26 because v27 has some cpu usage issues for me.

Same for me as for enhzflep - I'm using Chrome 64 Canary on my desktop, and have seen no problems like you mention.
Check your extensions - could be one's going a bit agly.

I tried to use Canary once, and I agree that it (usually) is blazing fast. And then they distributed an update that caused it to fail to start. So I went back to the beta version. On Canary channel you also once in a while get a build that is meant for deubugging/gathering so data , that runs extremly slow (you can see that it is a special build in the about. there is something after the version number to indicate that it is a special build, but it usually solves itself with the update on the next day ) I wouldn't recommend the Canary version for daily use though.

I suspect the extensions, too, since I've been using Chrome for years with no trouble. But I haven't added anything recently, and the problem just started a few months ago. I'm sure it's related to something Adobe put on my machine in an update...

What, like the Adobe PDF reader plugin?
Or the Adobe Flash player extension?
Could be: Adobe isn't allowed near this PC for just that reason...

Try clearing the browser's cache[^].
I'm using Opera, which actually uses Chrome's browsing engine, but works better for me. Using v26 at the moment because v27 has some cpu usage issues.
Firefox isn't too bad either.
