The IE part is a mistake, I see: I Googled "IE" and the Wiktionary entry started it's "definition" with "differs from" - if I'd clicked on it, I'd have seen that wasn't the definition at all

"that is" a mistake indeed

I know the normal definition, but I assumed it was an alternate definition and that it might help to confuse...

I asked a question about Christmas - I was curious how people relate themselves to the holiday, and got a lot of interesting response. However I got an 'abuse' too. I would like to get some explanation as I really no meant to...
In anyway - I truly ask for your forgiveness...

You got an abuse...?
That's not very Christian- or Christmas spirited!
Although coming from the bible belt myself I know some christians are really the biggest... I'll stop there to keep it lounge friendly
I wouldn't worry too much. Those people (and I mean abusers/trolls, not christians) aren't really worth your time and trouble

That's exactly what troubles me - not the abuse, but the fact I may insult a christian...

Don't worry about it. There is a lot of hypocrisy in many Christians. There is also a lot of good in many Christians. The same holds true for almost everyone else, so take it with a grain of salt. If possible, try to focus on the good.
Happy Holidays!

If someone has deeply held religious views then it is almost impossible not to insult them.
Most people won't be, a very small number will. They're the ones with the problem, not you.
Try being deliberately offensive to everyone, then you won't have to worry about accidentally offending someone.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

I see your point - the funny is that I already got an 'abuse' on this(!) post

Indeed. Some people just look for things to be insulted or offended about, others just don't want to understand.
As it happened a little while ago, when me my girlfriend and our friend was driving with us home. As we do every week on Tuesdays. Since I bought a new car this year, my radio is different and it shows titles of songs on it. I was thinking ok I won't listen to the usual metal I do, as this friend is religious and I know she is not going to like it. I put in Opeth's two calmer albums. It's bluesy, jazzy, 70's prog, done in a more modern way. Their lyrics are usually telling stories, sometimes about sorrow, fears and some are about the devil - on the other hand some are about love. They are not satanic, but they talk about good and bad. When the song The Devil's Orchard came on and she saw the title it wasn't good, she did react. There is a part of lyrics that goes:"Take the road where Devil speaks: God is dead", that didn't help at all. Even though the song is about a man who is led into sin and at the end repents and is forgiven. But she wasn't open to that explanation. And if a person isn't open to this, I see no reason for me to be careful about what I listen to, or say around them - not that I would attack them deliberately or be insulting, but I am myself and I have my own life and my way of living and it's harming no one. Whoever doesn't want to at least try to understand - well it's a pity. But I am not changing my behaviour because of that.
EDIT: There are people who are religious and don't have problems with this. I just told the story that happened to me lately and was relevant to the subject at hand. I had no problem with some religious people as they actually asked me what I see in it and have understood why I like this music and it's lyrics.

Love that
Speaking as one who has what I think is a deep faith. I am not really religious at all. Pretty hard to offend me.
But as this guy said. Religious nuts from all "religions" well they have the problem not you.

Christians can be easily insulted. I know, I used to be a Christian.
You got your answers to your earlier post, so move on. You need thicker skin, if this is really bothering you.

I got 'Abuse' for next to nothing - and from platinum members too! (the -16 doesn't lie). Some times the butter-hurt flows strongly in someone... I wouldn't worry too much!
And to offend my religious views one must try hard, I'm 100% atheist with a knack for esoterism and mysticism (I mean culturally, I'm no pagan or something trendy like that).

This happens... an open community with open options... unless you talk about bacon you can get abused, banned, deleted, erased, criticized, trolled, flamed...
Don't give any importance to that... It has no sense.
The best part of that is that you've got interesting answers too, this is what you wanted so...
PS: forgiveness in CP? this probably will happen after changes color...
