The fact is most jobs that don't have a creative element to them are not inherently fun. The monotony will get to anyone. Being fresh and learning and keeping things new keeps us young in spirit.
Of course, what you consider fun can change as you mature. But whatever the pursuit, newness and creative gains in it is what keeps driving that "fun" ball home.

Yeah, I guess the creative part is what makes it fun.

Well, work can't be all fun and games all the time.

The Professor said: "well, it's pretty good, actually, I have the summer off, now that I have tenure, and I have a nice group of slaves ... oops, I mean graduate students ... to write my articles."
The Lawyer said: "it's not bad doing criminal law, I mean you get to see the "dark side" of life up close without being arrested."
The Doctor said: "I never lose my sense of fascination with the advances in medical technology, and I am passionate about continuing my own professional education, which I find very meaningful."
Then, the Programmers spoke: "I have fun with code."
And the sound of ice tinkling in glasses stopped, and people averted their eyes, and there was a silence.

Nice. Not that a programmer would ever get invited to that sort of soirée, but nice.

I liked a statement which someone made, during a meeting:
"Your work should be fun, but should not be funny".

That goes for people aswell.

There are times when behaving as a clown on the job, even if you are not hired as a clown, may be just the right thing; for example: it may help to convince people that you are more emotionally stupid, less psychologically aware, than they might think otherwise, and, thus, perceive your intellect as less of a threat ... so you gain more time to prepare before you make your move to take over, and establish yourself as dictator

This week I was confronted with two consultants (with very known background ).
Ok, I also tend to say "we are the best", but paid consultants (paid by whom?) becomes more and more suspect for me.
I'm thinking about to start to ignore consultants which are more or less only

I try it once again.
Sorry I forgot to exclude PIEBALDconsult who has helped me a lot of time.
I will never "hate" the others really, therefore hate in between "".
Thank you for mention "Alan Turing". At a first glance at wiki, I think I need to read about him more serious.

Reminds me of the MCSEs from Back-In-The-Day™ when they thought the world of themselves over a dinky MS cert. The old joke was that it really stood for Must Consult Someone Experienced.
