That was my week last week.
Took our daughter to the doctor because of 'adnormal skin growth' around her navel. She had had umbilical surgery a few years back and something didn't look right. But... all was well; an internal stitch decided to pop out.
The next day, my wife's best friend diagnosed with breast cancer...
But, prognosis is good, so... we soldier on.
Hope your life turns to the upside more than the down.

Seriously, my life is good. I'm not complaining here - in both my sister's and my mother's case, it could have been so much worse, and with Jen's uncle, it was a blessing when he died as he was in a really bad way.
I hope things turn out well for your daughter and your wife's friend.

Congratulations on becoming a PluralSight author, Pete. And for the other.

Thanks Bill, although all the Pluralsight stuff so far seems to be people bitching about piracy.

Condolences on Jen's uncle. Good luck with your mother and sister.
At least it could've been worse, like when all the good stuff did NOT happen... And even then things could've been worse. Best not to think about that...

You are not wrong there Pete.
+Moved platforms and a change of scenery felt great, despite not knowing the people or the plant and having one big learning curve.
-On the family front youngest being suspected of having very mild aspergers and dyscalclia which makes things very difficult in dealing with her behaviours and trying to do homework....glad the wife has more patience than me, I get frustrated as hell.
-loosing 3 close friends at work in the space of as many months.
-I stumbled across an overseas job to a pal that she thought she would never see happen in her line of work and ended up getting it and she set off to restart her life in sunny Qatar. Moved out there with her boyfriend, couple of months later got engaged and then a month later he was dead...deaply felt for her, she is devasted as you can imagine.
~Now we are in the world of unknown waiting to see what happens at work with regards to potential spin-off or sell off and what the impact will be.
As they say, chin-up and soldier on and never let the b'stards grind you down!

Yes, it appears that way now, Pete. But you know well that things don't stay the same; everything changes, old friend, often for the better. I'm sorry to hear about Jen's uncle - please give her my condolences - but I assure you, this will pass. Hang on, and I'll be praying for you...

Thanks Pete, but I know there are people worse off than me and I probably shouldn't complain.
Most of the negative episodes primarily "just" end up increasing the financial burden and force me to spend a lot of time away from my wife.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all.
I'm on vacation for a week. Enjoy!

I think Thanksgiving should be held on the same day for all countries; a universal holiday, regardless of religion or culture. A day to be thankful for what we have.
Enjoy your week off.

There are definitely at least three Star Trek jokes to be made here... But it's Friday, and I'm lazy.

What do Canadians serve for a traditional dinner? Harp seal? Beaver? McDonald's?

Neither!
Quote: McDonald's? Huh?
Some variation based on culture, but mostly turkey, just like the US. Grits are unlikely though!
We do have wild turkeys here, in fact one of my dogs scared one up into a tree this past weekend.

Yesterday, I drove my Mustang to the local Ford dealer to check out the new 2015 Mustang. Pretty much all of the salesmen and service people came to check out my car, and while we were all standing there discussing it, some guy walks up and says:
"I get 40 miles per gallon in my Fiesta. What do you get?"
I responded, "I get laid."
The owner of the dealership gave me a Ford Racing ball cap because it was the best answer he'd ever heard to that question.
