Got up today, read my e-mail, browsed some news site. The computer didn't crash, there were no apparent issues. All of this while using Windows 8.
So, until such time as I can find the time to write my own operating system and browser, I will continue to use what I have - Windows 8.
And griping about what I don't like is wasted breath... so, I shant.

Maybe he held his breath whilst he was typing.
(And probably crossed his fingers behind his back, too)

I have no idea, what I want to say here! -_- Next year, Windows 10 is coming out, and you're going to write your won OS in one year (to make sure you will use Windows 8 until then)?

When someone is good about Windows 8 I ask him to sit in my chair, RDP into one of the customers Windows 2012 and try to get to the desktop to start working...

Yes, but did you try to do anything productive while using W8?

I'm sure he drunk a cup of coffee (or two) while on Windows 8 - we all (mostly) do that...

Really? I usually reach for something alcoholic so I can survive the experience.

I managed to do all that without even touching a device.
Granted they weren't my emails I was reading as I walked through our office looking at various people's screens, but I did catch a broad range of news from IS in the middle east to cures for thrush

I use Windows 8.1 for everything I do. This includes both VS and Android Studio development. Once the Windows 8.1 start screen is configured it's more productive than Windows 7.

Tim, I share your joy in your rare moment of technical satisfaction ...
... but ...
You do realize that by posting this message you have in effect issued an invitation to the demonic host in the other universe parallel to this one made of dark-matter where, for every living cat in this world, there is a dying cat in that other evil-twin world ... for every hard-drive spinning in this ... and so forth endlessly ...
... And: aforementioned demons, who consider the satisfactions of this world abominations, are at this very moment chortling with glee thinking of ways to screw you over ?

When you consider the amount of vitriol that is normally spewed into the lounge, generally aimed at Microsoft by developers that purportedly use Microsoft products, I make a conscious decision to post a postitive comment in the hopes that it would somewhat alter the balance. Or, at least give people pause to think...
One simple act may not change the world, but it can change someones world.

But really though, I agree with you on this. How is it in a world of grays so many people see black or white (usually black)?

Nice quote and so true.

Last week I bought a lovely new Pavilion 15; I didn't complain either.
I had it blatted to Ubuntu 14.04 within the half hour.
This morning I Facebooked, read the online papers(the free ones, obviously), wrote a humorous Python script in Idle(the free Python interpreter), using Python 3.4(pre installed), to amuse my pals in the US when they wake up while I'm at work here in the UK.
Last night I used a (free) IRC client to catch up with some people from RedHat who were willing to help me with a (free) virtualisation solution at work, and the night before I rebuilt my Windows-compatible .NET projects using (free) MonoDevelop and got them working on my Ubuntu desktop in 15 minutes flat.
All while listening to music from (free) Rhythmbox.
To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "Windows; you can live on it, but it tastes like sh!t".

Signed up to be a Microsoft developer for free
Received every piece of software ever made by Microsoft for free.
When I log onto Windows 8.1 the start menu is there without doing anything.
Right away my facebook notifications show on the start screen.
Right away weather, sports, and news all show on the start screen.
Then I go into the Bing News app now called MSN news (which is a data mining app - this provides news from 100s of sources I choose)
Afterwards I use Visual Studio Ultimate - provided free
And you wouldn't have had to waste the 15 minutes when Windows 8 was already installed - just saying

You must be near the top of the Microsoft pyramid scheme.
Incidentally, the 15 minutes included installing MonoDevelop, correcting the code, and building and testing the applications, improving the applications(C# and C++), and installing the latest OpenCV libraries.
And I didn't have to sign up for anything or anybody. I'm a salaried Nomad. I guess it all comes down to choices.
How long does it take to install Visual Studio Ultimate?

17 minutes and 18 seconds.
By the way stop trolling.

VS ultimate from an ISO via HDD 2-5 minute install.
So you want me to believe that in the first 15 minutes of having a computer you are correcting code...
It's one thing to talk about a computer being fast and another thing to make yourself seem super human, you just came off as a lair.
|
|
|
|
|
Did you get the HDD drive free as well?
Liar incidentally, not lair.
And no, I do not lie, as you would find if you you stopped being a Microsofty and looked at the big, good world out there.
|
|
|
|
|
When you come off as a lair you already lost credibility.
In your second message you continue to alter your story backing up that you are a lair.
