OK, not good with your friends mother, I agree. But apart from that, rescuing a bat (even at 4 AM) would make me feel pretty good throughout the day...

I'm not a big fan of 04:00: I'm pretty sure that there should only be one "four o'clock" in the day...

There is 04:00. What you mean is people should not call 16:00 four o'clock.

Out of interest, is there anything odd about the notification email for this?
Whenever I open Lounge emails today Outlook is locking up and crashing...

Trouble is that Pipistrelles are that small and breakable!
(Remember, the whole wing they fly with is just their hand and that they rely on flight to feed on insects. A single pipistrelle can eat 3,000 gnats in one night - so you want as many as you can get!)
And...they are flying mammals - which means they can carry Rabies. OK, it's unbelievably rare in the UK, but...
Plus, there is the stress to the animal: something my size holding it has got to be pretty terrifying, a glass lets it move around without escaping. You can't use a net, partly because of the risk of broken bones, and partly they fly too damn well! I checked on t'interweb afterwards and the recommended way to catch them is "leave them alone to settle and then get 'em" which is what I ended up doing.

They little buggers eat gnats and mozzies that bite me if given a chance. So I'm happy to see them around!

I've always wanted to like the Surface RT, it has all the features of a great tablet. Just complete epic failure when it comes to hardware and software integration. Prior to the latest patch I would have to reset back to factory defaults once a month. Then some patch would come along and I would loose wireless connection (loose as in the drivers would become corrupt). That issue seemed to be resolved however it opened new bugs, IE (the only browser available) would randomly crash, Bluetooth sorta kinda worked when it felt like it. I've called support only to be told the problems are network related for all issues (umm yea...) Tonight while trying to entertain some guests it would connect to the Bluetooth speaker for about 30 seconds then fail to see its even there. So in the bin it goes now...I know its not a problem with the wireless speaker as one of the guests was able to spin up music from his Android phone.
Microsoft wonders why the surface has done so poorly, from my experience of nothing but problems with it. That is a good thing people would only dislike MS even more if they ran into the same issues and had to deal with their support.
What is rather amusing about this is, I complained to my corporate MS rep about these problem only to be told "I will find someone to take care of these issues". That was over a month ago, not a word since then from him about this issue or any of the questions I posed.
This is a case where MS can't blame an external hardware manufacture for problems with device drivers. They own the foot print here. Instead they just blame the wireless access point...Blaming something else doesn't resolve the issues MS is having.
Tomorrow I go phone shopping (the replacement Nokia 928 I received about two months ago spends more time frozen than functioning) and android tablet shopping. There has to be something that just works without constant issues??
Does anyone have any suggestions??? I want a tablet and phone that can sync between each other, doesn't seem like to much to ask for?
Common sense is admitting there is cause and effect and that you can exert some control over what you understand.

I'm done with Microsoft now...Need devices that work and are supported by their manufacture (supported as in I don't want to hear contestant excuses by them)

I'm getting more and more convinced that some people either have really bad luck with electronics, or they give off some electromagnetism that damages them. I have friend that seems to have the same problem.
I have a Lumia 928 and it's never crashed. I reboot occasionally because I get nervous that I might have problems, because it's been so long. Otherwise, my reboots have been related to updates to 8.1.
My Surface Pro 2 hasn't been perfect on the other hand. No Windows-type crashes, but definitely hardware related things. Every once in a while it won't pick up the WiFi or the touch screen will go wonky. That has always been solved by restarting though.
The Metro apps (screw them, all call them what I want) are sh*t. I've pretty much given up on them, but I still use Mail and Calendar, because of the awesome synchronization -- when it works. Here are some of the problems:
* The Mail app sometimes doesn't show specific email messages and Microsoft suggested solutions didn't work. (The messages appear right off when you go to Outlook.com.) Beyond the basic first tier level they basically are dismissive and want you to go away.
* Mail and Calendar apps sometimes lose the connection to the Microsoft account and won't get it back. Restarting usually fixes it, but I had to reset to factory defaults on one occasion.
* Music app is clunky yes, but used to work, somewhere along the line the shuffle function broke. Now it's kind of random. Whatever song plays first plays every third song, so you get song #1, song #n1, song #n2, song #1, song #n3, song #n4, song #1, ... I haven't taken the time to investigate, but it doesn't seem like it gets your entire playlist. I use the Windows Media Player now.
* News app used to be awesome. On WiFi I'd let it sync and download the articles (I have it set for offline use). Then on the plane I could read the news. Now even though it downloads it says it's offline on every article and I cannot use it.

Wow! I checked in tonight with a question - my first, I think - and found nobody home! When it first opened, I spent a lot of time there, thinking someone would soon be along with a question I could answer, but after a while I wandered off after some shiny object or other and only stopped by on rare occasions since then. I really thought it would be a big success, but it doesn't seem to be catching fire yet. You lot must have some top notch BOFHs in your companies for you to have so few IT questions! Lucky folks!
