I thought that we'd already established that programmers are cats -- because there are precious few chicks interested in the job.

Are we doing fat-jokes in the lounge now?
Seriously, what am I missing, I can't believe anyone would sink so low as to take the piss out of someone just for being fat!

Jesus, if you saw me in real life, you'd know this isn't about being fat .
Punching above weight is a boxing term IIRC - implying a boxer is so good they are capable of fighting someone in a heavier weight category.

Outreach programs for kids and in particular girls to get them into programming.
Code Project should be visible in schools.
Code project should offer mentoring for young kids who wants to know about programming.
Code Project could start contacting schools to discuss programs and activities that can be included in extracurricular activities.
I'd rather be phishing!

I like that Idea but I think it would also be a difficulty pulling off sucessfully.

Mmmm, the problem I can see is that by telling kids "Computer Programming is the Future" you are going to create a government style foul up. A friend of mine who was in the IT/networking side of things, took a 'gap' year(s) came back as a teacher, now is fed up with it. He like a lot us was one the Techie/Geeky kids who though 'I wonder how...', he has found that trying to inspire kids to program is hard. Programming you have to make lots of errors and learn by them. I think its built in rather than taught... Mind you it might be possible...

Why stop there? We can make CP available in strip clubs too. That way, instead of boozing up and having fun at a place like that, people can go and learn how to program a computer while having strippers and loud music all around them. You haven't lived until a thong is the reason you forgot that semicolon!

If chicks wanted to be in IT, they would. Thus balance is already restored. And I've met more than one geek type chick, they're boring. I'd much rather see more chicks getting their wild on so they stay interesting.

Oh trust me I've tried. I have a geek side, but most of them have way too much of a shell.

Feeling threatened aren't we? And no, they don't know much outside of video games or some computer crap actually. But that's not even it. They're boring because, like this message you're posting, they'd rather attack anyone real and are closed off, than to do something like grow up and come out of their shell.
