Are you calling his new engine a lemon?
I think you mean souped-up!!

Yes, I meant souped-up.
Stupid Autocorrect changed it.
Even this time, except that I caught it. I couldn't figure out how I could have typed r instead of p when they are at opposite ends of the keyboard.

She should know.

Okay, attempting to get the ADK (Android Dev Kit) up and running on my machine -- yes it's a VM -- has been quite nasty.
It gives me the sense that the dev environment isn't really very robust.
First I tried the ADK - download huge zip and run then it updates to v. 23.x something and tells me it's out of date when I start Eclipse and tells me to do a "Check For Updates".
I do the Check For Updates and it says, "nothing to update".
What?
Then I run the SDK Manager tool and try to get some SDKs downloaded and it warns I don't have the newest dev environment to run those and also it fails in the middle because something -- it -- has started a process using JavaW.exe and that thing is stuck but it doesn't tell me that. It tells me that something has a folder open, but that's the folder the SKD Manager is trying to install to.
What!?! Interrobang Initiated!
So I finally kill javaw and it runs but I still can't simply get an AVD Android Virtual Device running on my machine and now I'm trying their beta Dev STudio crapper. Yes, crapper!
But I own a droid and like them and want to dev for them.
What I need is a Super-Genius to figure this here stuff out.
Was this a sufficient rant, or shall I post more?
This is definitely spam and I can't believe someone posted it here in the Lounge.

Oh, yes, indeed. No recruitment in the Lounge.
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

That was a very spammy response of you.

Have you tried Android Studio? I use both Eclipse and Android Studio and they both seem to work pretty well. Eclipse seems to be more responsive on my machine than Android Studio, so it is a toss up between the two.

Thanks for the tip. I have tried both. It's the emulator I'm having trouble with mostly.
I can't get it to start the android image even though it runs at 50% cpu for two hours before I kill it, I never see anything except a blank window.

I've had my share of troubles with the emulator as well. I stick to my actual android phone for debugging. I have had some success with the emulator by starting up the adb prior to starting up the IDE. Works okay with that approach but it still lags and has performance issues from time to time. It would be nice if they would look into making the emulator better.

Thanks for the feedback. I was considering the same thing -- using my droid pad to do debugging and forgetting about the emulator.
I'll try starting the emulator first and see if I have any luck.

I built this site purely for a learning exercise in work. I wanted to hopefully see if anyone sees it as a fun area where people can be creative with code, in a way which may not compile however may produce a chuckle rather than an exception so check it out here -
