There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

But the in the pub isn't going to drink itself.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

So, last week our Wii died. I've tried clearing any dust out of it, but it doesn't seem to want to power back up. Since we used it mainly for streaming Netflix, I wasn't in a rush to replace it.
A friend had told us he had purchased a Roku device for his birthday, but wasn't really happy with it - can't remember the particulars.
Decided to look into Roku versus Chromecast and decided to purchase a Chromecast unit. I did remember seeing others discuss Chromecast on here a few months back and seemed to recall the impression was largely favourable.
We are pleased with it so far; streamed some Netflix over the weekend and, last night, streamed a drama serial we had missed last week. Simple setup and it works with both our laptop and phones.

The only thing I use mine for is to cast Youtube videos from my mobile onto the TV...

We have the the cheapest Roku ($49USD) and we really like it.
There are a couple of advantages with it over the chromecast -- please correct me if I am wrong.
Advantages:
1. you get a dedicated remote with it. It has a [netflix] button right on it that takes you to the main netflix screen. Yes, I'm lazy and I wanted non-tech users of the household to just be able to push a button not fiddle with their smart phone or whatever.
2. it will play your amazon videos -- especially important if you are an Amazon prime member. Most other streaming devices -- including the chromecast (at the time we bought the Roku) -- do not include this ability.
We can also play MLB.tv (major league baseball subscription) on the Roku. Does that work with chromecast? Just curious.

Yes, there is a dedicated remote. Since my wife and I both have smart phones that can act as remotes, that was one less remote to try to maintain/hunt for.
My wife (a non-tech person), quite enjoyed using her phone to adjust the volume. In most households, the television remote would meet that purpose, but our sensor on the television stopped working... we have to walk across the room and use the buttons on the side of the television to: turn on/off, adjust volume, change input stream.
We haven't looked into Amazon videos and don't watch a lot of sports.

I have a Chromecast, and it just works
I use LocalCast on my Android tablet, and provided I have an MP4 (or M4V) file somewhere on my network, I can stream it to the TV as well as Netflix, 4OD, BBC iPlayer, etc.
Nice piece of kit!
