Nope, not been travelling to the USA for six odd months now, I took a job locally.

I wish I could do that but I would probably need to get a divorce first, the wife has become addicted to city living and Singapore is the antithesis of bucolic.

They ARE telling you... you refuse to believe you are wrong!!

I used to argue with people who believe memory should be handled by garbage collectors. Never on FB, though...

Sadly, the internet is compressing. If you want to talk to people in the mainstream, you have to do it inside FB, which I think is a truly awful thing for the internet as a whole.

Keep Fiddler running while you have Facebook open to see all HTTP traffic (including AJAX calls). That should give you an idea of what you can block.

I'm trying out FBPurity which is a browser add-on that gets rid of much of the noise on the FB page.
Maybe it might reduce the traffic a little?
So far it seems to have stopped FB blowing up FF every day.

Just a thought, can you try using the mobile version of the site (not sure if that would help or not)?
Common sense is admitting there is cause and effect and that you can exert some control over what you understand.

Yeah, I'd considered that, I might try that tonight and see. Actually it looks like gmail uses more than facebook does.

Both have mobile versions, worth a shot. I know as I use the mobile version on my phone (I loathe needing an app to do everything on a phone), and neither chew up that much bandwidth. I'd be interested in hearing how that turns out.

Which World Cup?
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

I think there is only one coming up in Brazil though!

Now that comment, coming from a seppo (so many "World Cups" where only you guys participate) gave me a genuine chuckle this morning.

I looked back at my first account Old Timer[^] and noticed I didn't post in the lounge only on articles. CG and Marc were my first contacts here and formed my opinion of the site, needless to say it was a good impression almost 12 years here.

I still have one of the two email addresses I had in 99. It's configured to be sucked into my gmail account where all the spam is automatically eaten; but if someone were to send a legit email to it, I should still receive it. (The other one was a school account and was turned off shortly after I graduated - they wanted $$ to keep it alive and it was enough of a spam cesspit that I'd largely abandoned it 2 years prior.)
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
