I really don't understand why it's such a foul word to mention IP blocking around here. Sure, there are ways around that, but anything that can make their life just a little more irritating is surely worth trying???

Because it doesn't work.
IP Blocking works against individuals, because it blocks the current IP address of the point of connection to the internet (the router, normally). OK, that can be worked around pretty easily - cycle the router power - but if I work for the same company as you and I post abusive messages, then IP Blocking will ban you as well...

OriginalGriff wrote: if I work for the same company as you and I post abusive messages, then IP Blocking will ban you as well And what's you point? If one person in a company is spamming, it's perfectly reasonable to me that the entire company is blocked. Then they can either stay out or if they really need and want to get in, they can stop the person doing the spamming from doing precisely that...
In my opinion: If it's an individual doing the spamming, he's not likely to do it from a legitimate company network. And if it's NOT an individual, then the company is behind it and should therefor be blocked all the same...

As I said, I don't think it's likely that it's one single individual sitting on a legitimate company network without the company knowing about it. Do you?
I think it's perfectly ok in that case to ban the whole company...

In this case, no - it's a moron sitting in a room full of low paid morons whose job is to post this spam - but we get enough idiots here that IP Blocking used as a default would block more legit users than "real" spammers. Look at some of the trolling halfwits we have had this year: any of them would spam if it had an effect on their local environment because it would mean someone in the real world noticing their actions! That would be an even bigger "rush" for them than annoying someone here by downvoting them...

I think most of us are in and out of CP throughout the day while at work. If we can post messages from work why can't someone post spam messages from work?

He can't read this, his account has strangely enough been deactivated.
Luckily enough, he left his phone number, so why don't you just give him a call instead?

It's probably all a big misunderstanding. Perhaps he did not read the posting rules for The Lounge. I also think someone should warn him about the dangers of posting his email address in a public forum, not to mention his phone number.
