Microsoft security essentials + Spybot search & destroy

I personally don’t care for windows 8 but the new windows defender built in, at a quick look appears to be the same (same binary names) as Microsoft Security Essentials used in older versions of Windows but with the new modern application scanning stuff built in.
I would stick with it myself.

For Windows 8.x, just let Windows Defender do it...it does a pretty good job.
For Windows XP, Defender/Security Essentials no longer works...I installed AVG on a buddy's XP computer...just need to get a few more miles out of the box till it blows and AVG seems to consume the least system resources which matters a lot on a 10 year old computer.

None of my Windows 8.1 systems need any antivirus. The Windows Defender that comes with them works just fine.

Rule 1 of good security: Don't discuss what security measures you use.
Rule 2: Don't have anything worth stealing.
That's me sorted!

Ok, I'll remove that big sticker in our front door telling which antivirus we are using...

I am just wondering/thinking (you maybe heard the noise and could smell the burning), but is there an optimum time to submit an article.
My gut feeling is that;
a) 1st week of the Month
b) sometime between 10am and 3pm (GMT/UTC) Monday to Thursday.
c) a+b apply except if Public holidays etc. occur.
I won't say why I think this so as not to sway your own personal thoughts.
In reality, it shouldn't really matter........but
Anyone else with any thoughts on this?

A lot of the stuff is actually swiped out by Sean when he's in the office, especially after weekends. If I publish an article in the morning (around 9:00 UTC+1, DST) I usually got it out by the end of the day.
I often swipe stuff out, too - Mostly stuff that was published before, got good votes and has undergone minor changes (So if that is the case for your article, you can publish it at almost any time [Again, UTC+1] and get it through as soon as I glance in).
I will never again mention that Dalek Dave was the poster of the One Millionth Lounge Post, nor that it was complete drivel.

It wasn't the approval process or anything that was crossing my mind, mine don't appear to go through moderation, but go straight out.
Sometimes you can publish an article and it is visible on the front page for hours (the Lastest list, not the moderation queues), other times it is gone in about 10 minutes, depending on how many others have published and how many tips are also published. Tips in the article list is a question for another day!

Gotcha - I can publish mine straight out too, but sometimes when I'm not sure about the type or feel like others may have another opinion whether it is suitable I still resort on the approval queue.
I guess the "best" time for that would then be weekend nights, and big public holidays (Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, Power Blackouts in big parts of the world).

Wasn't there an option to blend 'em out?

Here's my thoughts:
If you want to compete for the article of the month, time it so that you're article appears at the beginning of the cycle (I'm not sure that's the first of the month though) since the determination of whether the article shows up in the monthly competition is based on votes/rating (I think.)
I agree, I like to publish articles usually in the morning. Also, uncheck the "this is an update." Most people don't know this, and so for a new submission, it shows up as "updated." That sort of sucks because I used to visually filter the front page by new submittals, but since the default is "updated", they always show up as updates since people don't realize they should uncheck this option for a new article.
Also, put your latest article in your sig (which I have not done with my latest article!), blog about it (which I did do) and tell your friends to vote for it. And if you're into anti-social networking, FB and Tweet.

Why? Was there a price increase today, for tickets to Ryde?
