I don't really have anything to add, I just thought I would keep the thread going with all-MVP participant content...

I am surprised that #2 is on the list and it is totally against the stereotype.

I had to read it again (after over 20 year) to remember how much blood is in it...But IMHO it's not that 'harcias'...
I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. (V)

It was kind of a joke for us in school. Coming from India, hungry and Hungary sound same. I still do not know if it is pronounced different.

Yes there is a difference - there is no 'a' sound in hungry.

Ok, so is it pronounced as hung-gary?
I know what to expect in response.

Nope it's MADGE-AH-OR-SAG.

There was an article recently about how to annoy a Hungarian and that was second after refusing to drink.

"Hungary's really has no cause to be as violent as it is. There was no war for independence on the horizon. No foreign invader was occupying their homeland. "
Well clearly the author hasn't done his homework. Himnusz was written in 1823. At that time Hungary has been under Habsburg occupation since 1686. Before that the turks were controlling most of the terrotorries since 1541. The hymn contains 300 years worth of sorrow, sadness and yes, violence. Also 25 years after it was written was the year Hungarian Revolution of 1848 broke out, just 4 years after Erkel Ferenc composed the music for Himnusz (which is the version used to this day).

Many French people were shocked too, who did not know the lyrics, when at the 1998 World Cup opening ceremony the full anthem was sung in the stadium.

French people who did not know the lyrics ? Or French-speaking people ?
Apart from a bunch of silly soccer player (excuse the redundancy here), who in France does not know the lyrics of our national anthem ?

Its a great anthem, the most blood curdling of them all, it is, superb.

My opinion too. Much better than the anthem of Spain which unfortunately has no lyrics at all. Do they mumble when they win or protest ?
