I think it's quite valid for Sweden too, possibly to a lesser extent. Possibly.
My wife is German and when she moved up to me she recognized most of what he describes.
But the funny thing is that when she worked with Norwegians a few years ago she had the same experience again.

Interesting - Ive worked and met with Norwegians outside of Norway, and I found them very different from this portrayal/sterotype ... and ditto Swedish persons as well .. I remember a Swedish gent I met in Italy in 2005, who started with the line 'I know you think Swede is a type of vegetable..." (which cracked me up having such humour off the cuff)
And having spent a week in Stockholm, a few years ago, I had no issues talking to Swedish people there, although maybe most of them were a younger generation

In my last job I had to travel quite a lot in Europe, and the strangest thing I found about the people I worked with, in all countries, was how normal thay all were. Friendly, welcoming, generous, sense of humour, enjoyed drinking ... On reflection, that applied to the people in Kuwait and India also; apart from the drinking.

I guess they are pretty equal at work, but its the spare time that really was a challange for him at least. I guess it depends what you do.
