I already went to several great places which had mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. Remember that unsatisfied people are easily bitching oh these advice sites, but the satisfied seldom give feedback...

I suspect the area is more the reason it has garnered mixed reviews. To be honest, Renfrew Street does not look great and it's very heavily a student area. You are close to Sauchiehall Street there, and that puts some people off as well. Saying that, you're actually pretty close to the good end of Sauchiehall and within two minutes from Buchanan Street which, if you like shopping, is superb. There are lots of really good restaurants nearby and the night life around there can be really interesting. And yes - I do know Glasgow very well, I have clients in Glasgow so I spend a lot of time there.

Give one end has the Three Judges[^], and the Bon Accord[^] is somewhere in the middle (if my beer-fogged recollection is correct), what do you consider the "good" end?

Well, I was back in Glasgow last week and I took a wander along to this area. There's a lot of renovation going on around here so I suspect your friend will have a great time.

I read in The Times this morning that Apple has filed for a patent for the idea of using output from the rear camera on the phone to be used as the background to things like text messaging so those annoying sods who stumble around staring at their phones the whole time don't get run over.
Apparently, one 'app' has already been doing this since 2009.
I object to this on two levels. Firstly, those who get in the way because they are more interested in their phone than navigating around objects (including me) deserve to get run over. Secondly, just how ABSURD is the (US) patents system that you can patent ideas like that? How does this possibly benefit the consumer?
I do wish people would see Apple for what it is.
Regards,
Rob Philpott.

Does it also pipe the ambient sounds through the ear buds instead of music so they can hear the car coming?

Depends on whether they can patent that.

One worst example so far are probably the sunshines from King who patented "Candy".

Filmmaker Lauris Beinerts beautifully captures what it's like to be an expert in a technical field during a "big picture" business meeting. This short film is based on the Russian short story, "The Meeting", by writer Alexei Berezin.
Anyone understand this story?

Actually, you can draw 7 perpendicular lines assuming you have access in hyperspace. If you move the picture away from you quickly enough the blue lines will appear red.
