I shall never forget taking my dear lovely wife into the DIY store to get a washer for a leaking tap. £1,500 and a new bathroom later we walked out...

Careful what you wish for!
Along with Antimatter and Dark Matter they've discovered the existence of Doesn't Matter which appears to have no effect on the universe whatsoever!

Have you ever been having a clean out and stumbled across something you have written down and wondered what the hell it was for or what you were up to at that time?
Today, I was having a clear out of an old metal filing box.
In it, I came across old some old part numbers for fire and gas system components, old passwords for various work systems, some old notebooks.
The notebooks were empty, apart from one, and all it had in it I had written was;
cd /usr/include
rm -rf linux
rm -rf asm
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux linux
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/asm_i386 asm
cd /usr/src/linux
make proper
Haven't got a clue what it was for........

Yeah, well that was the NHS version, if she'd gone private she may have got Shakespeare or something. Perhaps there's a tariff linked to Amazon's reviewing system.

She'll also hear comments about how awful plaid pants look on anyone.

Someone complaining in QA that the Barcode generation software he included in his website generates an image, when he wanted just the text...

No, a different one - but I don't want the guy ridiculed or I would have posted a link.

And you don't think that he can read The Lounge posts and make the connection?

I imagine he either does not know anything about the Lounge or would not be interested in perusing it - when you're thick there are many mysteries in the world.

Probably nothing to do with it but it reminds me of having to use barcodes in a job back in the early 90s. We used a VBX to generate the barcode and it was a difficult thing to use (for one, when printed out it came out at pixel resolution rather than print resolution and readers had a hard time with).
On another assignment, they just used a barcode font which was genius. You barcode would indeed just be text.

Rob Philpott.

That can actually be a valid request. I've worked with solutions previously where instead of a generated image we just used the text and applied a barcode font to it ( like http://www.dafont.com/code-128.font[^]). It's actually much better for printing (less problems with stretching/skewing) and with @font-face widely supported nowadays for the web also.
