Time to put the CV out?
Stephen Schneider, Climate Scientist: "Scientists need to get some broader based support, to capture the public’s imagination…that, of course, entails getting loads of media coverage. Congratulations, Gary, and deepest sympathies !
At the last full-time gig I had in the U.S., back around 2000, in a mental-hospital posing as a software company in Redmond (under the very eye of Sauron, so to speak), getting laid-off was very difficult: people at the company were crying, and in shock, and I felt so guilty that I was ecstatic because I hated working there, and, since they laid me off, I got to keep my sign-on bonus, and got a severance payment, as well as qualified for unemployment.
I had to suppress wanting to scream for joy, which is always a bummer.
cheers, Bill

I would have received almost a half year salary in severance, which would have been nice. The un-nice part is my age; I'm 52, which means I would have a difficult time getting rehired, despite my intensely wizardly skills .

My account was banned a while back. I was wondering if you ever get the chance to get it back? I'd like to re-assume my old identity someday.
I used to be loctrice. That is my handle all over the web, and was here for a while. I just want my old name back. Eternity is pretty harsh.

Ask Chris nicely in sugs'n'bugs - it's his decision after all.
Unless of course, your name is already taken by a sock puppet, in which case you'd need to talk to them...but a quick check says it's not in use.

Actually, thinking about it - if all you want is the name, why not just change your username in "My Settings"?

Great suggestion! I didn't know you could change your name.. wonder if it will let me use my actual email again as well.

Yeah, shouldn't have tried to update the email. I think that is how the accounts are tracked, because now I'm locked out of the other account as well
Oh well.

Time to grovel to Chris!

I made the post. Hopefully I'll be myself again soon.

Haha unlucky.
Yeah I guess you have to appeal to Chris's better side in that case.

Chris has a better side?

Oh well... you win some, you get banned some...

Can't you just sign up again with the same name?
Worked for me.

It wouldn't let me when I created my other account. Now I can't because the name is taken, by Im_no_troll
I've broken both of them.

A very large check to Chris would probably do the trick. Or send me the check and I'll plead your case.

What miserable sod banned your account?
This whole account deletion thing is just stupid. Its unjust, and also pointless since you can create another in no time.

I see why you found that article. Size of sheep indeed.

That'd have to be very, very small sheep. Lambs, possibly, but not for long, them things grow up fast.

Even the family cat had refused to enter the kitchen while the giant rat was in residence, ...
It appears that it entered the kitchen via a ventilation pipe, having gnawed its way through cement and wood.
</article>
Okay, gnawing through wood I can understand, but gnawing through cement!
I don't blame the cat for not wanting to go in the kitchen.

Well, their teeth never stop growing, so they have to gnaw to wear them down - otherwise they can't eat. I guess when you get to that size, you really have to chew!
I was (slightly) interested, though, and found this: http://rat-patrol.org/Archives/Facts.html[^]
The damn things can chew through 1/2 inch steel!

They'll gnaw though metal too!
