I manage a site on their ASP Pro platform. We have been on Arvixe for 18 months or so.
6 days ago the shared server that we are on was subject to a DDOS attack.
I have heard as many excuses as I care to hear over the past 6 days and still have no LIVE website.
Up until now, we have been very happy with them, with the only exception being the server response times (we are on a shared server after all). If the response times were terrible we could have always moved to a dedicated server and improved them.
DO NOT expect any true DDOS protection. I suppose they could rightfully claim that they monitor such stuff tho

Hi,
We are sorry that you have been experiencing that situation with your hosting account. Unfortunately one of our servers has been DDoSed. We have put it behind DDoS protection through and the server along with all sites are up and running. If you can provide us more information about your account we will see that we can do to assist you and get you access to your domain. We can be reached at QA[@]arvixe{.}com.
Regards,

Not so.... neither of our sites are back to life yet. I am getting the same 500 error I have been getting since about 7 hours ago.
You said: ..."the server along with all sites are up and running"...
This type of response, frankly is what is so exasperating. For 6 days we have heard assurances that a fix was imminent, while days go by....
Case in Point, I called in almost 6 hours ago and was very politely told that the 1TB of data was being copied over and that it needed "a couple hours" to be fully complete. Our site is still down.
I can understand that techs are running like mad to get the situation resolved. It doe snot help to hear platitudes and polite assurances, but results are what is needed. After 6 days of asking for the honest truth about ETAs, I am still unsure that the honest truth exists at the level of tech support I can reach.
All of that said, we have been very very happy with the service up until 6 days ago. Typical though.... One never worries about one's IT dept, or infrastructure until it fails. Then one bitches up a storm.
So once more for those that read this: Arvixe has been a great service, right up until this damned DDOS attack. From that point on, they have tried very hard to tell us what we needed to hear, they have just too many things spinning to make sure the info they pass on is accurate across the entire support team.

Hi,
We are sorry for the issues you have experienced and we do try to make sure that all our techs have accurate information. We also have http://www.arvixe.com/alerts[^] that gives information directly from the tech(s) that are working on the server. We are always willing to make sure the issue is fixed to a satisfactory level and our QA department makes sure of that. DDoS attacks unfortuantely do happen and we work to make sure that we do everything we can to fix it. They can be reached at QA [@] arvixe dot com. Again we are sorry that there were issues.
Regards.

I've found that with Arvixe it's a matter of luck and what you need the service for. I did my research when going with them and received a lot of good feedback. Unfortunately, for me they didn't work out.
The Windows Server was going down constantly and their customer support takes a lot of time to respond (I recommend you monitor your server uptime). Our server got hit by a DDOS attack and it took two days to get the service running again. They scheduled maintenance without notifying me.
If you just want to host some websites very cheap it's an ok service as long as you don't care the site go down often. But anything other than that I would shop for a different service. I was with them for two years because I signed a two year agreement but had to move most of my sites out of it after a few months of service.

You might remember "dry oats and sugar" or "peanut butter saturated with sugar", or if not, then not.
Anyway, today it is: about a liter of rice pudding, containing just under 100g of butter and a significant amount of sugar.
The experiment this time is seeing how much of it I can eat. I've already had dinner, this is just the dessert.
edit: this might have been a bad idea. I feel terrible and I'm only halfway.
edit2: ok it took a while, but I've defeated the rice pudding.

I like rice pudding, but a liter of it with that much butter & sugar would make me feel
Just because the code works, it doesn't mean that it is good code.

It wasn't too bad.
7/10 would do again.
Sugar-saturated peanut butter is a lot worse.

This may sound like a silly question, but why?
Is the experiment "how much can I eat before I vomit?"
Because if so, why?
And if not, why?

Why not eat a litre of rice pudding containing half a pack of butter and "a significant amount of sugar" after having just had your main meal?
Do you want a list of reasons?

If that's all the reason you need I suggest you try a kilo of prunes or flaxseeds next time. I'm looking forward to the report.

Genuine LOL.
I remember the Argus from my time living in Brighton, it was a bit hippy-trippy back then and I see it has not improved from going online.

They do have some cracking headlines[^] though.

Hey - when were you in Brighton - I lived there for a few years in the '80s and have fond memories of the chap outside the railway station selling the newspaper, yelling
"AAAAArssse"
at the top of his voice.
Or that's what it sounded like to us after a few pints at the pub!

In Brighton, that doesn't surprise me.
I knew it very well back in the day. I'd guess late 70's through to '87 I was there a lot. My Aunt lived there until her death. I was very close to her and so I chose to go to Uni down there. She lived in a home on the front, on Marine Parade and her rooms are now a rather fetching bed-sit, and I was the last family member to see her before she passed away.
I lived in digs up in Moolsecoomb and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Studying of course and never going out to the pubs or clubs. Well hardly ever.

Small world.
I had to check my Resume to make sure, and I lived around Brighton from 1982-1986 (I did spend the latter year or two in Worthing, for my sins)
If you ever frequented the King and Queen (and what Brighton Student didn't) that was me up in the balcony with the pints of cider and those funny looking cigarettes.

I liked

Yeah because pubs that have anything other than a zero tolerance to guns are not pubs, they are Saloons.

*cough*
You've obviously not frequented some of the same pubs I used to then...
