My last visit was about 5 years ago, in Virginia mostly, but everything was super duper delicious (Yes! I gained a lot of weight here ).
5 years later, I come back here, this time Chicago, and I've tried from takeouts to fancy dine-ins but everything sucks, and all the places stink. What happened to all the good food?

It's probably a combination of being in Chicago and your palate having matured.

Everything has gone to the dogs here.
So sorry.

The South = great food (Virginia is just barely in the South)
The North = they eat what?
Seriously, you never see a restaurant with Northern Style cooking.
I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated.

There's the Michigan delicacy, pasties. Pronounced with short a like in the past, not like the dancer adornments. Some of the most bland, boring food you'll ever eat. They'll defend it by saying that you need to put ketchup (catsup?) on it. On the plus side, our sausage game is excellent and, supposedly, the hamburger was first made in a small city in Wisconsin[^].

I've never seen a recipe book titled 'Northern Cooking'or'English Cooking'. Could there be a reason?

Except for that Chicago style pizza!

Some American cities do certain foods better than others. IIRC Chicago is known for its style of pizza. And Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse is excellent.

Well, the way Chicago is pronounced is actually a sentence in Italian and it means "I s*** on it", maybe it is a warning?

And it's famous for pizza.
There was me thinking that putting pineapple on pizza was as bad as it could get ...

Right... because the Brits are famous for their cuisine!

Of course we are: four-hour boiled cabbage, mushy peas, battered saveloy ... the list is endless.

You must have been here in the 19th century. There is lots of international cuisine in the UK.

International cuisine is available in most civilized nations... I was referring to home grown British Cuisine.

There is plenty of home grown cuisine that is worth eating. You should come and try it.

Shepherd's pie and Cottage pie, yes, good. Black pudding is a must with breakfast. Some good cheeses, too.
Mustn't forget Lancashire hot pot. Similar idea to a pot au feu.
