It's contextual innit!
Would you eat a sandwich that was lying around for 6 years?

Yes.
That's all British Rail ever sold...

Why do British Rail Sarnies get such a bad rap... they haven't been that bad for at least 20 years (better than I make!)
|
|
|

Because they used to sell them as sandwiches (at a huge price) until they dried out and curled up.
Then they sold them as sausage rolls....

Price aside the modern Sarnies are quite nice!

The trouble with all bought-in sandwiches in plastic packs is that you get a good layer of content along the cut line, and nothing much in the rest of the sarnie. And they were clearly made the previous day, or the day before and have been blast-chilled to 0K to try and keep them fresh...using the cheapest bread, cheese and ham they can find.
Gimmee a fresh Bacon Buttie, or a Sausage Sarnie, or an Apple and Piccalilli, or peanut butter salad, with good filling on tasty bread. Yum! (And it's generally cheaper than the plastic packed rubbish)
I guess it's like the difference between breakfast at the motorway services and breakfast in a good hotel.
