F java anyway with its interpreted ass... Hey I was just enjoying looking at your Everything Embedded site and am really looking to take my Enterprise client/server ass down to the lower levels... Have been looking at Arduino but didn't see any direct ref on your site to it unless I just have my head up my ass as usual... Any C# experience with Arduino buddy?

I've been using Atmel Studio and the Atmel line of chips for about 2 years and my site is full of that as for Arduino if you mean the board I make most of my own except for the ATMega1280 and ATMega2560 boards which I buy, if you mean the IDE I shy away from it like Eclipse. I've been trying to push using C++ on my site but people are really resistant to using it.
Not a compiler set up to do embedded C# for the AVR yet!
I've ordered a SAM3X board which is ARM based and anxious to see what I can do with it. The Atmel Studio IDE can be used for either 8bit or the 32bit ARM chip so won't have a problem there.

Wow people are shying away from C++ in that genre from/to what??? Straight C/asm?

Yes
With the devices with a small foot print I can understand but with devices that have 128K+ flash why wouldn't you use C++. You can always write the critical stuff in ASM or C for that matter but the bulk can be OOP'd.
Years ago I worked in a C shop and tried to get people to convert but they wouldn't because they had always written in C and didn't want to change.
If you like you language you can keep your language period!

Mike, thanks for the heads-up on what to avoid.
I looked it up on the web and I'm much better off without it. Thank you for pointing out what I never missed.

Decided to make a curry for supper tonight: done this load of times. An hour later, taste the curry sauce.
Throw in bin.
Make another.
Then, I'm trying to read an Excel file into a C# DataTable, so I can apply some custom analysis and reporting: done this load of times.
4 hours later, still trying to load the damn file, and banging head on desk over "installable ISAM"s...and notice the filename I'm using doesn't have it's ".xlsx" extension...
30 seconds later, and it's loaded into a DataGridView...
Perhaps I should quit for the day, before I do any real damage?

I had that happen quite often because a so called administrator used to delete all the branches every time he would fold them into the trunk!
We kept telling him that was not necessary but he continued to do it anyway.
As we used to say he was a truck driver trying to fly the airplane.

Thanks
My son and DIL went to a friends wedding in Ohio and brought me back a chest cold. Would have rather had a T-Shirt!

That was friendly of them.
Hopefully, once they are over it, you can return the favour with a nice influenza or something?
